What's up with regions?

After years of using ReCap, I finally decided to create a region.  I have a door open and closed in some scans.  I decided to make a region of the open door.  After reading the online documentation (and being assured it was sooooo easy), I selected the open door, opened the Navigator, click on the "+" icon and called the region Open Door.

The selected points stay selected.  Toggling the visibility icon does nothing.  Hovering over the region does not highlight in green.  As far as I can tell, the selected points are not in a region at all.

So what am I missing?

So you...

  1. Made a selection
  2. "opened the Navigator" (by which you mean the Project Navigator that you can toggle with the "q" key?)
  3. created a new region by clicking on the big "+" button and named the region "Open Door"

You just created a new region but did not assign any points to it.

What you want to do is:

  1. Make a selection
  2. Click on the big "Region" icon that appears in the lower middle, between the selection tool and the clipping tool.
  3. Assign the selected points to an already existing region in the fly-out or assign them to a new region (Ctrl+R) which will be created for the selection.

Think twice if you really need regions!

After setting up regions ReCap becomes extremely slow or unresponsive

Thanks.

I don't have to use regions.  I thought this case was simple and might warrant it.  Maybe not.
