What does "Overlap" percentage exactly mean in ReCap Pro?

According to https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/recap/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/ReCap-Wh...:

Overlap: is a percentage of common features throughout the project. [...]

What exactly is the word "features" referring to? At the moment I am interpeting it as "points", so I make sure that each scan location is able to capture at least 30% of the already registered set of points.

That said I'm not able to interpeter the following stats given by a 2-scan test-project: what's the reason behind the difference between the overlap percentage if one is referring only to the other?

The quote from the article is also pointing out that:

[...] A higher percentage of overlap ensures that features that are shadowed or occluded behind objects in one scan (such as behind a column) are visible in one of the other scans.

I don't get why high overlap percentage can be related to the ability to see behind the occluding objects. I would have said that scanning from different locations can help in the task, but (strictly following may interpretation of "overlap") moving the scanner in another position is usually limiting the common points.

Could someone clarify those aspects?

the difference between the overlap value for these two scans is that the number of features in each scan is different. The overlap percentage is computed by common features/number of features in this scan. So when the number of features is different in two scans, the overlap value is different. The article means occlusions in one scan can be solved by scanning from the other position and these two scans should have overlap to ensure they can be registered together.

That makes sense.

Thank you for your clarification.
