Scans missing color on certain computers

I've executed multiple scans on our FARO Focus S70 scanner, on multiple SD cards (Both formatted as FAT32 and ExFat). In all cases the following happens:

We copy the files directly from the scanner SD card onto a local machine and import from there into a recap project. On one of the laptops the colours are missing from the scan (point cloud is greyscale, and realview images are also greyscale) but on all other computers we try the import on the colour is present.

I've tried uninstalling recap and installing it again.
I've tried an import on an identical laptop (same hardware) and the colour is present there.
I've tried setting the decimation import setting to 0mm, the colour is still missing.

I'm running ReCap Pro v.24.0.
I've attached a test scan for testing purposes. Colours are missing when I import this scan on my laptop.

Any ideas?

Here is an image showing how the images in realView look after import. Do note that here the colours are set to RGB.

Hi @DaníelHjartarson ,

I tried your scans and it does come grayscale with FY24 as well. If you try on ReCap 22 or 23, it will come in color as I tried. Perhaps your other computers are using 22 or 23?

We have logged this issue already and are investigating as the difference between older and new versions of ReCap is that ReCap now uses the new FARO API and the older ones have been deprecated. So this is something that needs to be checked along with FARO as well. We are looking at this.

As a workaround, the scans from Focus Scanners will come with color if you use ReCap 22 or 23.

As you suspected, the other computers are all running versions lower than 24.

The issue is logged internally so I am not sure you would have access to view it. We have started looking into it already.

I'm having the same problem. The scan that I'm importing from Faro Focus Premium are coming without color. 

Let me know if have any update

Additional information: Old versions of Recap aren't support the Faro Focus Premium files. Only Recap 2024

@DaníelHjartarson  I tested your file that attached in this topic inrecap 2024 and recap 2023. In v24 came in grayscale like my scans. In v23 came with color. 

@barmanr  my big problem is I'm using Faro Focus Premium and it's doens't work in version before v24. And I'll doing new scanning job in next week. Can you help me with this?

@alex_xavier, yeah. I retested my files and got the same results as reported above.
As an idea while you wait for a Recap patch is to get a 30 day trial of the Faro Scene? Surely that can import from your scanner.

@DaníelHjartarson, is good idea. But I'm not an expert in Faro Scene, you know?! I worked with it at the last scanning but when the register went wrong I export to recap and made all register with it. But it's still a good idea at the last case.

I like register in Recap. It seems better then Faro. I think more easy, you know?! I don't know if you think the same

Yes for Faro Premium, they only work with FY24 as previous versions did not support it. 

We are currently working with FARO for the scan colorization license key. We do not have an ETA on this yet. Once we integrate and go through testing, I will provide an update.

I'm throwing my woes into the fray. Same here. Scans not getting processed in color. We even sent our FARO scanner in for repairs. They found nothing wrong. I should have looked here first. Duh. I'll have to dig up an old version of ReCap, I guess.

If your scanner is Faro Focus Premium it will doesn't work with Recap old version. I already tested. It works with only Faro Scene (latest versions).
I believe that Autodesk will fix this

Hi @alex_xavier ,

We are aiming for the color issue to be fixed for ReCap Pro 2025 as we are on FARO's timeline on this matter. Their new release should be somewhere around the end of October to early November. We will then integrate and plan for the yearly global launch release in April 2024. 

This recent 24.1 update introduces new features such as Manual Classification and Intelligent Decimation.

Im having the same problem, They work in color on my desktop and also use to work in colour on my laptop as well. As soon as i updated recap on my laptop they just come through in black and white now. Its so hard to see that its a waste of time even trying. Not sure what im paying for tbh.
