RECAP MOBILE UPDATE!

Am I the only one who thinks autodesk has given up on the mobile app? I really like the desktop version but the mobile version is nearly not functional and it’s been this way since its inception.  The last update was more than a year and a half ago! I would like to stay with the recap workflow starting with the mobile app but will be forced to switch to Leica’s new app and software if autodesk has abandoned the mobile app. Can someone please shed some light on whether or not they might update this sad piece of software anytime soon? My business is getting really tired of training people how to work with and around a buggy and unreliable mobile app. Autodesk, I honestly expected more. What a let down.

I think they have given up on Recap as a whole. Hardly any feature updates for a long time.

I'm reporting this since more that 1 year.

I guess Autodesk has given up on ReCap as platform.

I would not be surprised if they'll delete Recap suite anytime soon, leaving only the .rcp format alive to interact with AutoCAD and Revit.

Thanks for your post.  You're correct in saying that we haven't updated our desktop and mobile apps in a while.  We've been very focused on opening up the ReCap RCP format to our partners to help build out a larger and more robust set of Reality Data Solutions.  These solutions don't necessarily show up in ReCap Pro, but if you've seen recent news releases from companies like Faro and Leica, you'll see some of the results of our work in partnership with them (mostly easier RCP exports).

That being said, we know that we need to update both ReCap Pro and ReCap mobile.  We're working on some updates now and please stay tuned for more news on their release dates.

No offense but I will believe it when I see it. I think my company is about to look for other solutions. I understand autodesk has been focused on other areas with partners but how about they work out the bugs in their own platform first! The mobile app is just terrible and has been since day one. Seems like a year and a half is a long time to not even release a bug fix update. Also, can you be more specific with your timeline? Are you proposing updates and bug fixes to your mobile platform this year or just sometime in the future? I think if we are going to beta test for autodesk we shouldn’t have to pay a subscription.

it's a good strategy opening up the RCP format to others, but you forgot ReCap user base. I'm happy to hear that ReCap and ReCap Mobile will be updated, but we are really waiting since 2 years now. Please, could you be a little bit more specific about release dates?

And we are back to crickets from Autodesk. Seems they are not going to be specific about updates at all. At this point it would just be nice to know what year they will releasing an update addressing the bugs in their software. I guess they don’t know either. It’s a very easy question to answer unless of course you can’t.....

Not a single word as far as I know. Exactly what I expected from them unfortunately. I have to wonder if they are adequately supporting other programs as well... If they chose not to move forward with ReCap Pro for Ipad they should have at least had the professionalism and or common decency to put out a statement. I'm very apprehensive to use other Autodesk products after seeing how they have handled this. Our Firm is now looking at Autodesk alternatives for our entire design process. I'm sure we are not alone.

Even though i don't really expect anymore updates for the Recap Pro for Mobile app i want to give some suggestions for potential future updates:

1. Make the auto registration non sequential. Right now the app always trys to auto register e.g. scan1 to scan2 to scan 3 etc. This often leads to the need to manual register which slows down the process.

Or give us the option to suggest which scans should be tried to automatically registered together.

2. Give us the possibility to select which scan (already transfered to the Ipad) should be registered next. Right now the app always tries to register the next scan in the list. A potential workaround right now is to delete scans from the Ipad until you reach the scan you want to register. Then you have to transfer those scans (which were deleted) back to the Ipad. This is cumbersome and slows down the process.

3. In Manual Registration: Add a little x to delete a green, red or blue point like in the desktop version. Often times i accidentally positioned the point somewhere and then have to search for it in the real view and then drag it to the right position. Not very user friendly.
4. Give us the possibility to move scans from one group to another.

5. Give us the possibility to merge scan groups.

6. Give us the possibility to select multiple scans to delete from the Ipad or to move to a scan group.

7. Please fix those crashes of the app/project which lead to a loss of the registration data. This makes the registration on the Ipad worthless. This basically happens to me once every project.

8. For Android users: Make Recap Pro for Mobile available on the play store.

 

I would really appreciate any future feature or bugfix updates to Recap Pro for mobile which has far more potential. If anybody has additional suggestions for features or bugfixes just add below.
