Hi, i have a laser scan loaded in Recap and want to publish it to a360. Im on v3.1.2.1 and published a different project yesterday. Here's what i see:
Here's what i should see:
Any ideas?
Thanks
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
What is the raw format of your laser scans? The option is only available for structured scans (tripod/fixed origin scans) scans.
You can find more information on structured scans in this article http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/reality-computing/autodesk-recap-file-formats-which-where-amp-how/ba-p...
Also, just adding a note that we recently released an update 3.1.2.4. You should see it in your Autodesk Desktop App.
Thanks,
Ashwini
Hi Kevin,
Publishing in ReCap 360 is available for projects with structured scans which originate from terrestrial scanners. Sharing of unstructured scans is not currently supported through the publish project mechanism.
Does your project contain structured scans or unstructured scans?
Thank you,

I presume structured. The scans started in a Leica P40. Imported to Cyclone, registered, unified, cleaned and unified one last time. Then exported to .ptx file that i brought into recap for use in Autodesk products. Are you telling me i have to export as a .pts file instead and re-register in Recap?
Thanks
Kevin
PS - I presume your email is first dot last at autodesk? If so, i can share the PTX file with you. It's roughly 1.2 GB.
PTX is a structured type. But sometimes, when the data is cleaned up aggressively in Cyclone and exported, the resulting PTX will consist of many small sub-scans that are so small that Recap treats them as un-structured. I am wondering if this is the problem.
Could you post an image of the import screen in ReCap? To do this, simply create a new project, add the PTX, select default settings and let it import completely. Snap a picture and attach. The scan thumbnails can tell us if the data is structured/unstructured.
Thanks,
Ashwini
Here are some screen grabs:

PS - By the way, should it take ~4 1/2 hours to index a 5GB pts file?
Hi Kevin,
Best file format from Cyclone for use in ReCap would be PTG instead of PTX.
It's a binary format, much smaller in file size, structured and it takes a lot less time to import and process in ReCap because of the way it's constructed.
I would recommend using PTG in future instead of PTX or PTS.

Thanks for the suggestion. Correct me if i am wrong, but to get a PTG output, i would have to NOT unify the modelspace. Doing so, somehow prevents Cyclone from creating a PTG export. Do you know what the difference really is between the formats other than binary and file size?
PS - i just imported a PTG into recap. It is certainly quicker. However, all of my registration is lost. It wants to auto register each scan position. I would prefer to use the Cyclone registration over Recap.
Hi Kevin,
If you export the registered PTGs from Cyclone you can just skip that part in ReCap.
Mitko
So, the PTG option does create a smaller file. However, its still individual scans that have to be registered. Unless i am missing something obvious, which it is entirely possible. I will review again in the morning.
Hi Kevin,
When importing the files in ReCap there is an option to skip the registration part which is above the "automatic registration" button.
