Poor implementation of Recap

I am a professor at Penn State University teaching a course in 3D modeling and 3D printing in Biomedicine.  I wanted to include a session in my course on photogrammetry using ReMake (using photo collections), I learned from your FAQ about the transition to ReCap, which stated that I could use ReMake until Dec. 1.  This is not true, as I can no longer run ReMake (it directs me to ReCap website).  When I run ReCap Photo, it says I do not have any credits available.  This was not a problem with ReMake, as long as I did not use the "ultra" selection.  What is the use of having software for educational use that cannot be used by students.  I'm very disappointed in you software roadmap.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for participating in our Community!

Autodesk ReMake is no more available for new users. It is being discontinued. Our development team is aware that currently ReCap photo requires cloud credit for processing for EDU users, within next few days we are releasing an update that resolve this issue for EDU users.

Please, let me know if this helps and thank you for your patience.

Also, visit ReCap Blog for more information on ReCap Photo.

Thank you and have a great day!

Thanks for the quick reply. Until the update is released, our students cannot use it w/out credits.

Hello,

We have now introduced EDU support in ReCap Photo which enables Photo reconstruction without the need of cloud credits.

To use ReCap Photo in EDU mode, one needs to do the following:

  1. Register and download Autodesk ReCap's latest version from EDU site.
The installer will install ReCap version 4.2.0.2 and ReCap Photo version 18.0.0.56

  1. Download and Install ReCap Photo update version 18.1.0.18 from the this link or from Autodesk Desktop App
  1. In ReCap Photo application, sign-in using EDU user credentials.

EDU users will not need cloud credits credits anymore for aerial & object reconstructions. However, there will be a 100 photo upload limit per project.

Thanks,
Devang
