Moving a scan

I'm working on scanning a small historic bridge with a BLK and iPad. The project is about 30 scans.

My first scan was from the side to give a good anchor for the rest of the scans. I moved around the bridge scanning and making sure I had good overlap. The mobile app was unable to register all of the scans as I worked as well as failing to import all of the scans from the scanner to the iPad.

When I loaded the scans onto my desktop and went through the registration process (removing some and re-registering them again) I was unable to get a good model. Some scans were out by 3' despite repeated attempts at registration. As I removed some scans it, of course, removed the related scans. Somewhere in the process my scans started being renumbered, so instead of having Scan 1-30, I now had scans 2-31. I tried to un register everything and start over but I couldn't find a way to do that, so I re imported the original scan list from the BLK into the mobile app leaving them un registered and then imported the list into a new project. I registered all of the scans manually and ended up with one scan that was out by about 8". The strange thing was that it was my first scan that I thought I was tying everything else into and that's the one scan that you can't seem to remove to re register.

- Is there a way to bring the un-imported scans into the mobile app from the scanner?

- Why is the program re-numbering my scans?

- Is it possible to un-register all of the scans at once?

- Is it possible to grab a scan and drag it into the right location?

On every project I've worked on with Recap I've ended up with one or two reluctant scans that just don't want to register. Some are badly tilted and some shifted. Is this just a fact of life with Recap or is there a way around it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Scans are named based on the order they are transferred to ReCap Pro Mobile project from the scanner.  They will get the name <project name> <number> where <number> is their order in the project.  Once transferred, scans will never be renamed or renumbered.  But if you retransfer from the scanner, e.g. into a different project or in a different order, the same source data may get a different name/number.

To your questions:

- Yes, you can bulk transfer scans into the Mobile app via the 'storage' button below the big scanner image.

- See above regarding numbering.

- There is no 'unregister all', but if you have more than one registration group, you can break the group in one step by deleting it (see the fly-out menu at the top of the scan list in Manual Registration).

- There is no way to force a scan into a different position.  Your best bet might be to run the problem scan as a different project, and assign survey coordinates to it to force it into alignment with the rest.

The BLK and ReCap Mobile are tuned for medium-range use.  The problems you describe are probably related to the use case.  For outdoor scans, you need to be aware of the distribution of vertical surfaces - not just overlap.  In your bridge example, you'll want to make sure your distance/density are sufficient and that you have other vertical surfaces in the scene (preferably, roughly perpendicular to the bridge).
