Exporting vertex normals

Hi there,

Is there a way to export vertex norms with the point cloud from auto recap pro? I am trying to export a point cloud so that I can import it into cloud compare and meshlab to create a mesh but cannot seem to export the vertex norms. I have exported as a pts. and as an E57. Has anyone figured this out or know if it’s even possible with recap?

best!

Why don´t you calculate the normals in cloudcompare or meshlab? Both have a lot of functions to do that.

why would we compute an approximation as we have true normals values generated with the laser scan ..?

Exactly.  Scanner normals are much more accurate and faster.  Give much better meshing results.  Especially with incomplete non watertight scans which is mostly what I deal with.

It's very frustrating that my perfect normals coming from the LIDAR scanner are being stripped out by ReCap Pro.

Cloudcompare and Meshlab aren't giving anywhere near as good normal data. A good mesh depends on good normals.
