Delete Scan Location

We are currently working with a Recap Project containing about 450+ Scans.

The project was created from single fls files.

Now i figured out, that three single scan positions where placed wrong.

When i try to delete does missplaced scan locations, it takes forever....

After waiting "forever" i can import the "correct" fls files again.

And then it takes "forever" again until the newly indexed scans are showing up in Recap.

The good thing, you are able to replace single scans. The bad, the time it needs.

Would be great, if this could be done faster.

Cheers F.

ähm, no good thing so far.

After waiting, saving the project, re open the project, the newly imported scans are not showing up in Recap.

That means no way to delete and re-import single scan files.

So forget about the "good" thing i have written above.

Can you walk me through the steps you used to remove and then re-add the scans? With a project that large it would make sense that it might take a while to remove those scans and then re-add them, but more information could help us to provide some additional help or evaluate possible ways to streamline the process. Could you also provide your currently installed version of ReCap?

Hi richiee,

I have got the same problem. I use Recap 360 Ultimate 2.1.0.17. I have five different recap projects. The first one with the most scans (about 300 scans) is registered in FARO Scene and then imported to Recap. The other projects with each about 4 scans were registered in recap.

Afterwards I imported the projects into one new project, where I want to bring the groups together in the coordinate system of the big first project. Unfortunately the registration of nine scans of the first project gets lost (because of small overlap). Now I want to delete these scans and reimport them to register. This takes about 45 minutes per scan and 7 hours for all scans (very long!!!). I delete them by clicking delete in the scan location list. Is there a way to make this process quicker?

I have also another question. When I import the big registered FARO Scene project with the 300 scans into Recap, the registration information of all scans imports successfully. But when I register this project in the new project with the other projects, recap obviously calculates a new registration of the big project, where the registration of the nine scans with the small overlap gets lost. Is there a way to fix a registration of a group or a imported project?

Create a new folder under scan location tab and then move the scans to be deleted to this folder. And then delete this folder.

Deleting the folder is much faster than deleting the scans individually from my experience.

Where do I find a button to create a  new folder?

Drag one scan item onto the other scan item will create a folder to include these two scans and then you can drag the other scans to this folder.

That worked very well. Thanks a lot yan.fu!

With this method deleting the scans in the created folder took one second (the method before took lots of hours!!) 🙂

So far so good. It works. Not within seconds (400 Scans in this project), but it works.

But: I have to restore two scans in this project. They where missaligned. So i deleted the two scans.

As soon as i import the two scans again, all previously deleted points in the project are restored automatically. Not only the ones from those two particular scans......This is a really unwanted thing if you have cleaned the hole project before.

Any tip?

F.

If you are using the newer version of Recap, you could try to optimize the project before re-importing the two scans. More information on optimizing the project can be found in this document

The workflow in this case would be:

1. Clean up your project, click save. You will be provided an option to optimize.

2. Select optimize

3. After optimizing, remove the two misaligned scans from project navigator.

4. Bring the two scans back. Since the project is optimized, previously deleted points in the project will not be restored automatically.

Let us know if this works.

hmm, another BUT:

- Deleting Scan Positions works way faster. Thats good.

- Previously deleted scan points are not restored while deleting scans, if you clean up your project before. Also good.

Not good example:

- Two scans in a Recap project are out of place. This are Faro Scans, aligned in Faro Scene.

- So i'm gonna delete those two scans in Recap.

- I place the two scans in Faro Scene correct.

- Back in Recap, i reimport exactly the same fls Files again. A message appears that the existing Scans are overwritten. Why this? I deleted those scans.... Makes no sense. They can not be overwritten because they not exist anymore in that Recap project.....

- Hit ok, Scans are indexing. But the two scans are still misplaced, at the same position as before deleting.

It seams that Recap keep's some informations about deleted scan postions. Just my opinion.

Any help?

F.

You can also try by removing the scan files in the project folder. Then the overwrite info might not appear.

Or just rename the new fls files.

Optimize project wil not work in every case. Why, is still open. See discussion here:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-general-discussion/is-optimizing-supposed-to-work-like-this/m-p/...

As far as there is no solution for that, the hole problem with deleting scan position's is NOT solved.
