Hi @Anonymous,

From ReCap Pro, you can export your .rcp file from the export menu to .pts and subsequently, you can open the .pts file in ReCap Photo and export it to .xyz from the export menu in ReCap Photo.

Let me know if you need anymore help!

Anil: I just tried to perform the same workflow that you & Gerald suggested.

I can export as a .PTS from Recap just fine.

However, when I try to import a .PTS into Recap Photo (version 18.2.0.8), I'm not able to.

The only files I can export from ReCap are the following FIleTypes:

RCP

RCS

PTS

E57

The only files I can import into Recap Photo are the following FileTypes:

RCM

FBX

OBJ

PLY

STL

STLb

STLa

Once I've gotten a file started, I can export to XYZ, however I can't bring anything in from ReCap directly. Please help. How can we take a .PTS into ReCap Photo?

Hi @michael.reuter,

I would like to apologise for the confusion.

To import into ReCap Photo, you would need to use the "Scan to Mesh" feature on ReCap Pro. And subsequently, import the mesh file into ReCap Photo and export it to XYZ format.

So I will have to use the Cloud scan to mesh to create a format that will open in recap photo and then export from that.

That might be good for something small, I have 4 RCP file groups that are roughly 40gigs of data total. This does not seam very efficient or cost effective.

recap Photo will also have to process this in the cloud?

if i process this much data on the cloud how long and how much are we talking.

is this the only way?

Thank you

Hi @joe_truitt,

Thank you for participating in our community! Yes, once you create Mesh you can download output in RCM format then open in ReCap Photo. Unfortunately ReCap Photo only process in cloud at this time and we don't know how log it will take to create Mesh for individual project. Its all depends on the project.

If you have any feedback that you would like to submit regarding any enhancement, please click on the “ReCap IdeaStation” link on the ReCap community home page.  This will help the Project Manager and developers hear your voice on any changes/concerns with functionality directly for consideration in future builds.

Thank you and have a great day!

Not that the Scan to mesh function has been taken away, are you going to update your method to recap to recapphoto

So how do we go about doing this now that you got rid of the scan to mesh feature.

Bump.  I'd like to see an answer to this too.

My Workflow would be:

  1. Export from ReCap as .e57 or .pst file
  2. Import to a Software like cloudcompare or meshlab (all open source)
  3. Optional create mesh
  4. Save as .obj, .ply
  5. Import to ReCap Photo

You can save  .xyz-file directly from cloudcompare.

If you got a pointcloud load in cloudcompare, klick the save button and choose ASCII Cloud as fileformat.
