Blurred scan and incomplete point cloud data / while same scan works in Scene

Hi

I have an issue with some scans that started being blurred for the 3d view in recap and it is also missing most its points :

This is the blurred real view, it has the same aspect if I enter it:

 Sans titre.png

Is is missing most of its points as well:

Sans titre3.png

The same scan works in scene, I can open the quick view and see its full 3d point cloud and it works in the webshare :

Sans titre2.png

This is a quick exemple but latelly I've been getting this error from about 2 scan per 50scan projects. Most the scans work. What can be causing this? is there any way to fix this? any cues?

Ive uploaded this scan .e57 export from scene for testing purposses on my dropbox:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zzitcxkj0jk36bu/DOBEL_Scan_D_027.zip?dl=0

and also the original scan from my Faro scanner :

https://www.dropbox.com/s/dayk8ayoxwcru77/Scan_D_027.fls.zip?dl=0

Ive reloaded this scan in another recap project and I get the same issue. (latest version is intalled : 4.2.1.7):

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Can you please test previous versions of recap that can load the scans, this is causing many issues with our current projects. We would like to downgrade the version of our recap so that we can deliver complete projects to our clients while this gets resolved. One solution we have found that sometimes work is to do this export in scene;

1.png

This export does not include the pictures (real view). The one above does (Export scan points) and it is the one we usually do since it includes the real view (pictures) and most our clients want to see those in Recap.

This is not a scene issue, we have been using the same version of Scene for years (5.5.3.16) and we've never had any issues with recap. Now we have this issue in every projects, sometimes with 5-6 scans...

I can also import the same scan that I've sent you with other softwares with no issues, hence this is a recap problem.

As for exemple, here is that same scan in pointools:

2.png

Hence it would be greatly appreciated if you could find a version of recap that works (the latest one as possible) and  let us know how we can reinstall that version.

Thank you,

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for your patience. I just got an update from development team and they are aware of this behavior. As workaround export as FLS instead of E57. I will give you an update via Forum post once this issue is resolve in production environment.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hello Leandre104

It seems that it could be a graphical glitch caused by your graphics card driver.
Ensure that your graphics card driver is updated.

Other option could be that some scan location files were corrupted.

Check this:

1 In your ReCap project, locate and identify the scan locations that seems to be damaged.
2 Out of ReCap, open the project's Support folder (located besides the .RCP file). Inside this folder, locate the .RCP and .RCC files that match with those ones identified in step 1.
3 Copy only the .RCP files in a new folder.
4 Try to directly open a RCS file that you have copied in step 3 and verify if the problema persists. If so, then your data has become corrupted and you will have to reload / import the original source file from your scanner and register it again. If not, go to step 5.
5 Get out of ReCap. Add to the new folder created the .RCC files with the same name as .RCP ones.
6 Repeat step 4. Check if now the problem appears again. If so, then the issue is located in .RCC files (that contains real view information).

Hi Augusto,

Have you tried importing the scan into recap? the e57 export?

We have tried on 7 different computers here, most of them have different graphic cards, all with up to date drivers, and they have all given the same results while with previous versions of recap we had no problems. I do not think this is the issue. We have found some work arounds, different exports solution works, but we will await on recap to fix this bug on their end.

Thanks! have a great day,

Leandre

Hi Leandre
Devinitively, there are problems importing this E57 file in ReCap.
I ve imported your E57 file in Cloud Compare with no errors.

From CloudCompare, I ve exported  to E57 again and ... TAAACHAAANNNN!!! It has worked.

How have you generated this E57?, I think the problem is in the app you has used to create this E57.

Hi @Anonymous and @amorap,

Thank you for your feedback. As I mention in my previous post saying that we are aware of this behavior and development team is working very hard to resolving this behavior. We will give you an update via Forum post once this issue is resolve in production environment.

Thank you and have a great day!

Congratulation,

Do you have the 360 picture... (real view) ?   😉

I rest my case.

No.

Unfortunately CloudCompare does not Support real view. Is a good program to manage "pure data", only X,Y,Z, intensity and R,G,B.
No way to manage images or photos in Cloud Compare, then all the image information contained in your original E57 file has been lost.

I have not tried to combine the RCS information generated from my E57 file with the RCC information from yours (anyway the RCC file generated from your E57 becomes corrupted).

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for sharing the Raw FLS and the E57 that you exported from Scene.

I did a bunch of tests and here is what I found -

1. Imported FLS and exported to E57 in Recap. Imported the exported E57 back in ReCap - Pointcloud and Realview are complete, no hazy-ness in Realview.

2. Imported E57 and exported to E57 in CloudCompare. Imported the exported E57 in ReCap - Pointcloud and Realview are complete, no hazy-ness in Realview.

3. Imported FLS and exported to E57 in Scene. Imported the exported E57 in CloudCompare/Scene - Pointcloud and Realview are complete, no hazy-ness in Realview.

4. Imported FLS and exported to E57 in Scene. Imported the exported E57 in ReCap - Now I see the point cloud being choppy and Realview blurry.

There is something different about the E57 exported from Scene and how ReCap handles it. That being said, if CloudCompare can handle it, ReCap should be able to as well. I will pass this on to the engineering team for further investigation.

Thanks

Ashwini

Hello,

it's there any solution for this in ReCAP?

This problems have mostly scans with small distances (for example the scan position nearly the wall).

In earlier versions of ReCap works definitely correct.

The work around about fls (fws) has the disadvantage, that I can not setting up the basic resolution (for example only every second point in scan).
