BLK360 ReCap desktop workflow without iPad

There are two workflows that let you transfer data from BLK360 to a PC:

Recap Pro workflow, through an iPad Pro wired with a cable: as the scanner acquires data, it is automatically transferred, saved and processed on ReCap Pro mobile app. Then, when I plug the iPad with my PC, I can transfer that data, already registered and processed, into ReCap Pro desktop.

A copy of the scans is left on the BLK360 storage.

Cyclone workflow, through BLK360 - PC WiFi connection: I connect the scanner and the PC via Wi-Fi, I can transfer data from BLK360 storage to my PC with Leica Cyclone software. No iPad needed.

My question is: if I import data from BLK360 scanner to PC with Leica Cyclone, will I be able to use that data into Recap Pro desktop, for registrations, editing and publishing?

Hi @marco,

Thank you for your feedback. Both workflow you mention should work fine. Just to let you know that the Leica Cyclone does export to structured scan formats compatible with ReCap Pro.  However, it is common to only use one of the two tools (Cyclone or ReCap Pro) for the registration step, rather than both.  Note that for the first workflow, using the ReCap Pro for mobile on an iPad Pro, you can still do registration on ReCap Pro for desktop.  Performing registration on the iPad is optional.  If not done, you will be prompted to complete registration once the project is transferred to ReCap Pro for desktop.

Note that when using the push-button scans, you can only use the device’s default settings, which are currently medium-density, color scans.

sorry for my late answer, I had two intense scanning days.

I have one more question: on ReCap Pro mobile, what does the switcher Save Locally, under Project settings, means?

I presume that, if switched off, scans are saved just on the BLK360 internal storage, but I will need to transfer them on the iPad in order to copy them on ReCap desktop, right?

Hi @marco,

That's correct. Project data gets stored on you iPAD, if you turn off "Save Locally" from project settings then all the data for this project will be lost unless it has been backed up to ReCap Desktop.

Hi @anil_mistry,

I just found an annoying "bug" in ReCap Pro Mobile: when I attach the iPad with iTunes (PC or Mac), the ReCap app is not listed under iTunes file sharing menu, in order to transfer Scans without using Recap Desktop. This is a major limitation.

Another found limitation is that, from the mobile app, I can't share a scan outside the app itself, I mean upload the scan into my dropbox or other similar services, or share it wireless via AirDrop.

The battery depletion rate is much higher when connected to the iPad than when scanning without the iPad. It would be nice if the BLK would remember the last scan setting and use that with the push-button method. It is also less cumbersome to do 20+ scans without carrying around the iPad, depleting the battery on both devices.

I've read the forums, seen the Leica Youtube video for transferring completed scans from iPad to Desktop.  HOWEVER, I do not see the ReCap App in iTunes once connected.

What are some of the reasons why I am not able to see the Recap App icon in iTunes, thus allowing me to download scans?

I've 'trusted' my computer after connecting my iPad. iTunes sees the iPad...just no ReCap App.

You will need to import using the Recap desktop app not iTunes. Also Recap on the iPad needs to be open. Good luck!

I see this is still an issue per the OP. I am curious as to why a company like Autodesk did not foresee this in the planning and development stage of this project? I think I have an idea as to why it is. Lets see if I am correct or not.
