Hi All,
I've been working with point cloud data for a while now, capturing it, processing it, and interpreting it.
Over that time I've built up a pretty solid understanding of what sits underneath all of it. I've decided to write it down, in what is becoming a series of series.
The intent isn't to be comprehensive. It's to be useful, and to open up conversations.
From Points to Meaning: A Geometry Primer for the AEC World on Point Clouds
The first is a geometry primer.
If you've ever wondered why your point cloud landed in the wrong place, what those colours actually mean, or just want a foundation for thinking about reality capture more clearly, that one is for you.
From Points to Practice: The Data Behind the Scan
The second goes deeper into the data behind the scan.
What happens when point cloud data meets the practical reality of real project workflows, large, messy, format-dependent, coordinate-system-sensitive datasets and the decisions that shape what survives them.
More to come.
Comments and questions very welcome on each one.
Cheers,
Ewan
