3D scanning a racing airplane

I used Recap to scan Outlaw Air Racing's Cassutt Special. We are working to convert this airplane into an electric air racer. The aircraft is a homebuilt so while there are some drawings available, there are no CAD models to speak of, and there definitely are no CAD models of the as-built aircraft.

So scanning was the only option. Once I got the aircraft isolated I exported the project file into Pointfuse, where I then was able to convert the cloud points directly into a CAD model. This has already been invaluable as we can now size and design our motor mounts and battery modules, knowing how everything will fit inside the cramped engine compartment.
