r14 on windows 10

Anyone had any luck with finding a gdifont3.hdi that works with Windows 10?  Program opens showing error, pull downs work.  Real close.  I had to add the Heidi3.dll first but it opens looks right has some functionality.  Any ideas?

Don't like not having my drawing program.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

R14? As in the 1997 18-year-old program?

You are most likely out of luck unless these folks can sell you a fix http://www.longbowsoftware.com/

Maybe, but if they can do it someone else can also. I've been running r14
for 14 years on platforms people first said you could not.

Thanks for your time.

Hope you have a great weekend!

This is the way to do it, tested working - Installing AutoCAD R14 on Windows 7, WIndows 8 and Windows 10 64bit

I found this [FREE] solution!!!
In the link there is a free tutorial on how to install 16 bit applications on 64bit systems with a free tool called: WinVDM

It totally worked for me so I tried to install AutoCad R14 on doing the following:

Donwload the following
WineVDM: https://github.com/otya128/winevdm/releases

[!!!! make sure you install/download the x86 version of the Visual C++ !!!!! ]
Visual C++ Redist: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685

Watch the folowing link on installing 16bit on 64bit systems:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYU15CQcA-s

After install and first startup (Autocad R14) you will get an "bad mem error", the solotution is:

Replace the "SH31W32.DLL" so you wont get any bab mem error message again:

You can download the file of the folowing page:
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-r12-r13-r14-archive-read/r14-windows-vista/td-p/1892221/page/...

Copy and replace it at the following location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoCAD R14

For those who used to work with Autocad R14, this will be the free solution! It works like a charm for me, no need to download/buy the longbow software or so...

Then you are ready to go!!!

If you got any problems in installing, feel free to respond!

Thank You for posting this. I do have a question concerning the actual install of r14. Do I do a complete new install or just copy files from an already installed r14?

Autodesk ended automatic reauthorizing of 2010 and older software (includes R0014 from 20+ years ago) as of August 31 2019, read all about it here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/simplecontent/content/previous-ver...

Sorry, you missed the deadline.

Hi There,

I did a complete new install, just for fun and to check if it realy works.. Well it did blow my mind, because I was looking for a free solution, instead of using/buying expensive software like Longbow...

So if you have older software that doesn`t needs to connect to the internet for activation it shouldn`t be a problem..

I have installed an original AutoCad Release R14 with the codes on the CD and without online activation, which didn`t existed back in the days, and it works like a charm.. It even works with other old software you like to install.. (the WineVDM software I meant)..

So I think is worth a ty, don`t you?

Looking forward to you reaction..

Best regards..

I have been trying for years to get my copy of Autocad 14 to work on Windows 10. I found this and though great. Well not so great. I go thru all the steps and it starts installing and gets to 31% and then I get this error

0434:err:file:RedirectDriveRoot 166: c:\stopthis.now => C:\Users\Bill\DOWNLO~1\OTVDM-~1.0(1\OTVDM-~1r\c\stopthis.now

The first number changes when I shut the computer off and retry instead of 0434 I have gotten 2168 and others

Thanks for any help you can give.

If tips here do not help, rumor has it that website sells a fix as well https://www.longbowsoftware.com/Tips_and_Tricks.php

Otherwise just go find a free R14-look CAD program that reads/writes DWG files, there are still some out there.

About @infoQD2PZ's tips above... I got a new Windows 11 PC and I was curious so I tested his manual process. Aside from the difficulties installing those components on the latest versions of Windows (which I think will be a struggle for some people on here) some real world drawing editing etc show that R14 runs but with lots of issues. For instance, the Properties panel doesn't work and Express Tools is broken. No good for me. Oops, I just noticed VBA and Image support is broken also.

@thermostat Longbow Still working great for me - Here are the latest install instructions for Windows 11 (apparently same for Windows 10), took 3 minutes start to finish for me https://blog.longbowsoftware.com/installing-autocad-r14-on-windows-11/

@pendean - note that link https://www.longbowsoftware.com/Tips_and_Tricks.php no longer exists
