Well . . . . aside from the fact that you would be doing her work for
her and, therefore, she could be accused of plaigerism (sp?) which could
get her expelled, the answer is no. But you also need to know that any
copies other students make of your dwg will have a stamp on the edge
that indicates it came from a Student Version of Autocad and this alone
my "flag" your instructor that something is "fishy".

Why is that? What is "fishy" about students using a student version of the software (particularly since students can get the software for free)?

What I would consider fishy is a student able to work at home and turning in the work and it doesn't have the watermark. Some students might have a parent with a legal commercial release at home, but most probably aren't that fortunate.

You've lost me too. There is no mention of passing around a dwg, the OP is talking about the actual software. How can that be 'doing her homework for her'?

My answer would be to let her use your PC today and have her acquire a free
student version of her own.

Bottom line, you have one license you can only run it on one computer at one
time, if you buy 8 license you can run it one 8 computer at the same time.

In answer to your first paragraph: At our community college, we don't
have student versions, so a Student watermark would indicate it was done
at home and if it turned up on another student's work - well, what would
you think? As for working at home, I have no aversion to that since many
times, there is enough time to complete the work by the end of class.

Yes, I misunderstood. Autodesk is not in the business of giving away
free copies, which is what you would be doing by giving it to other
students. Not a good practice and could lead to legal problems.

You bought one license.

One license allows you to install it on one PC for active use under your
supervision.

Your student can download the free student version anytime and use it: there
is no functionality difference, and that is what it is there for, free for
students, nothing to buy, free. You both won't get into legal trouble with
www.bsa.org

Software piracy is what you are advocating, illegal. I bet your school has a
serious disciplinary policy towards violators, you might want to explore it.
Schools cave into big business and legal actions against them/their
staff/their students.

Ouch! The free student version can be registered on up to two computers owned by you. Read the EULA.

Why did you PURCHASE the software? Any student can join the Autodesk Student Community (with a valid student e-mail account) and download the software for free?? You got ripped off.

I think if you buy a student license you get a text book.

I got the impression the OP is school staff, not a student, and purchased
version does not expire like the freebie student version.

Student version from http://engineersrule.org is 14month license and I have downloaded the last 3 releases. Essentially perpetual license to latest Autodesk product releases as long as the program continues. The license is for personal computers - not school lab computers.

I am in the process of downloading AutoCAD from that student download site. However, it said that there are no more serial number codes available at this time. Do they regularly add more activation codes? Will I be able to get on later? On that sites forums it seems like a lot of people have had this problem. I really hope this works, it will save me a big chunk of money!

Thanks to the people on here that mentioned that site. I was going to buy this program from my college store this weekend. None of my teachers had told me about this site!
