Hello,

I would like to install my old Autocad lt 2006 on my new laptop.
I have the installation CD with the licence number, but my computer does'nt have a CD reader.

How can I download the software and validate the licence number?

Thanks

AutoCAD 2006 is long retired...

Question does your new PC meet the system requirements for 2006 AutoCAD?

AutoCAD 2006 System Requirements
  • Intel Pentium III or later with 800Mhz Processor
  • Microsoft Windows XP (Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition), Windows 2000
  • 512 MB RAM (minimum)
  • 500 MB free disk space
  • 1024x768 VGA with true colour (minimum)
  • Mouse or other pointing device
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1

I highly doubt you have an XP or Win2000 system.  Probably time to update your AutoCAD

As Darren mentioned they make external CD's drives.

You can then valid it on RegisterOnce, but if you don't have the OS / System requirements listed, it doesn't matter if you have the CD-ROM

With an external CD/DVD player, install your program.  Autodesk will not let you register it.  I found a way around that.  From the desktop shortcut, right click the icon and run as an administrator.  When asked to register the program, just choose to run it without registering it.

Welcome to the Autodesk community..

Selecting Run - puts the product in 30 day trial mode.  When 30 days is up the product will no longer work until its activated (which you can't anymore)

As of Aug 31 2019, product version 2010 and earlier can no longer be activated.

There's a dedicated forum for this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/previous-version-support/bd-p/6051

Your AutoCADLT2006 is not supported in Win10, which means Autodesk is not interested ever in helping you with any issue, it does not mean anything else you might read into "supported" http://autode.sk/1IY4C2X

Autodesk alaso ended automatic reauthorizing of 2010 and older software as of August 31 2019, read all about it here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/simplecontent/content/previous-ver... Sorry, you missed the deadline.

But... the licensing team can decide when a reactivation code can be granted and to whom. So open a ticket with the Licensing support and check all information and options they may offer you if any https://knowledge.autodesk.com/contact-support/installation-activation

If you still have your old Win7 PC and all works well, hang on to it for as long as it will last, then figure out a new option if you are unable to join Autodesk Subscription for newer software. If you find Autodesk software subscriptions too expensive, there are many other CAD packages out there with no subscription options (initial cost may still be comparably high) that you can go get and use.

It is just plain wrong that they will not let you register a program you paid for!

I had the same issue here when a old XP HD died and I re installed XP on a new HD - I needed 2006 to run it to run XP due to software for a punch press that would not run on W7 and up

When they chose to support only the current version plus the 3 previous versions, they announced their reasoning for cutting off access to software that was that old. It required maintaining the license server that provided activation codes. It simply was no longer economical to maintain the hardware and software to do so. Is that "wrong" for them to control their expenses?

I understand that you have old machinery. Does the punch press require AutoCAD or just old versions of dxf? You can File>SaveAs to a previous file version.

We get around it by using a current machine and then make a 2010 dxf file - it is just not as easy.

I still feel it is wrong. I have many older bits of software than ACAD 2006 that I can install today (Providing I have a old machine to install it on) - Windows 2000, heck even DOS 6.22 - Word Perfect 4.2 - Visual Basic and on and on

Wrong? In who's eyes? Do those other software require the vendor to maintain outdated software and hardware indefinitely? For example, I've bought many cars over the years. Just because I own them, does that mean it's wrong for the manufacturer to stop making parts for my car?

About all you can do is submit a support ticket and ask if there's a special code they can give you. You might also look at an old version of an AutoCAD competitor. Many were free and didn't require licensing.

You are talking Apples and Wheelbarrows.

I did not mention anything about maintaining it, just allow me to use what I paid for as I stated many bits of software I have will still let me install them even if not supported. I did not even expect them to allow me to download it - I have the original CD

The only thing that changed i the automatic way it is done, nothing more: they retired that old gear that did that at their end. It's just how they did it.

If you absolutely need your old software, they make you jump through hoops and try to find a phone number or email to ask for it in person as the license holder. Start digging and looking for that, and start reaching out. no one here is going to be able to do that on your behalf.

I'd start here with your for-purchase login email and account (keep in mind this is going to vanish pretty soon too)

https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/all?sort=%5B%7B%22field%22%3A%22displayName.raw%2...

After that, start a websearch and dig.

Best wishes.
