From my personal experience I wouldn't recommend buying wide screen display for design purposes. If you plan to use it solely for design you're better of getting something that'll give you more vertical workspace ie. 2560x1600. I'm using 30" 2560x1600 HP monitor at work and it's great for design. At home I have ultra wide display and it's great for gaming but when I try to do some 3D modelling I miss that extra vertical space. I think that 30" at 2560x1600 is perfect combination of size and resolution for the design.
