Trying to make a pattern for a ball mill path

Hi all,

I'm trying to program a relief cut on the backside of a trimming die. It has a 3/16 rad. and we use a 3/8 ball for the finish cut. Used to be we would offset the top edge of the fillet in by the radius amount and down the same. I'm having an overcut situation as the cut goes up and down on the Z. Hoping someone knows a better way.

Hi @Anonymous

I'd use pattern finishing. I'd offset the top edge as you did, and use the drop option. Maybe you'd need to ignore the top surface if they are straight in Z. Then collision/gouge check everything and that'd do what you want I think.

Best regards,

Thanks guys, I used your suggestion j.lacrasse and it worked. I had to lie to it about the tool diameter (.372) but it cut the shape. I was doing 1 step too many.

Thanks again,

John
