Quick measure draft angle

 Is there a quick way to measure a draft angle on PowerMill 2017. We have PowerShape and when I select the 'open the calculator' icon I have the 'measure draft angle' then can quicky hover over a angle and it will show me the angle related to my work plane. This would be very handy if this option is available on PowerMill 2017. I have attached a image to show the icon. Thanks

You can use check draft angle for surface quickly same as Autodesk PowerShape in PowerMill Modelling from calculator. If you still want the similar function in PowerMill, can you little bit regarding it application and importance in your day today life while using the PowerMill? It would help us to raise feature request for you query.

I'll jump in here.  Even better than the calculator function to check draft angles is the surface inspection mode in Powershape.  In that mode, click / hold / hover over a surface or face gives all kinds of information.  You can choose what information is displayed.  I use it all the time in Powershape, and it would be good to have in Powermill without switching to powermill modeling.  I avoid surface modeling in powermill, I find it better and faster to just use powershape for any changes.

I find surface inspection a really quick way to check areas for flatness, position, and draft angle.  I often use some long reach tooling, and the area where these tools can reach is determined by the depth and draft angle.  It's better for me to know this up front, rather than wait for collision checking after toolpath calculation.

This screencast is showing how it works in Powershape, I would love to have this functionality in Powermill.

Hi ive tried the 'Align with geometry' method but it doesn't show a solid reading on a chamfer or a angle face unlike the Powershape method. ive attached  3 images to see more clearly.

Thanks for the showing me this method. I agree with you that Powermill should have its own measure draft angle option to make it quick rather than keep opening up Powershape. But it seems to me that Powermill doesn't have this option.

Im looking to not use Powershape for checking. Im looking to see if there was a option like this on Powermill. We often check surface angles on models to see if we can use angle cutters eg a 30deg chamfer around a pocket we would then use a 30deg angle cutter as a basic example. Also we would use this just to do a general check and also if we are using a angle bracket as we only have 3 axis milling.

In case it wasn't clear, you can use Surface Modeling from within Powermill to get to Powershape and use Surface Inspection mode.  Not sure if it is required that you have a license or subscription to both, we do.

It is slower though because the model has to be sent into a "modeling" window (powershape).  That's why I would like it to be available straight from Powermill.

Yes this is useful but like you mentioned this can be slow as opening the Powershape ect. It would be good to add it to the Powermill itself just to make it quick and easy.

I was telling you the same that you can use the draft angle checking in PowerMill modelling (also known as Surface Modelling). I think you miss lead by my term used PowerMill Modelling. 

If you want to me raise a change request, I can raise a feature request for ability to access draft angle checking in PowerMill to development team.

@iamcdn79 Can you explain this further? I am getting various different angles in this mode. Is there a way to lock the world and just have it read a consistant draft angle around the work piece?

The only way to be getting various angles as shown in your first pic is if the surface is curved. In your second pic is that the same surface as the first pic?

It is a different surface but that surface has the same draft angle all the way around the part. Powermill is telling me the draft is different though. Heres a top down view:
