Powermill 2018 Tool Database Update

Anonymous
Not applicable

I just installed Powermill 2018 on one of the new Windows 10 systems, but it cannot access the tool database. I pointed to the correct location, but I get an error saying I need to run the "Update Tool Database Utility". There are instructions on how to do this, but I do not have the utility on my machine anywhere.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for contacting Autodesk Community..

I have faced the similar issue at my end while opening the tool database in Autodesk PowerMill 2018. Following Steps helped me to resolve the issue-

1. Close all active sessions of Autodesk PowerMill 2018.

2. Download and Install the version of the Microsoft VC C++ 2005 from the following link –

https://autodesk.box.com/s/alnhcyov5dvxm3s40yysqafqphm1xujt

3. Restart the system.

4. Now browse to

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill 2018\sys\tooldb"

There you will find an application called "ADODC.exe"

5.  Right Click on this and tell it to create a shortcut. Windows will typically tell you to place this on the desktop.

6.  Locate the shortcut on your desktop or where ever you placed it. Right click on the shortcut and select properties. In the target line you will see the path as-

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill 2018\sys\tooldb\ADODC.exe"

image.png

Modify this path to -

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill 2018\sys\tooldb\ADODC.exe" -Regserver

7. Once you have modified this select OK then run the short cut.

Now Open Autodesk PowerMill 2018 and retry accessing the tool database.

Hope this resolves the issue accessing tool database at your end.

If this procedure resolves your query then please click on 'Accept as solution' for this post.

Thank you for your time and co-operation.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for contacting Autodesk Community Forum..

It seems seem issue with administrator rights here. Can you retry with following steps-

1) Press the Windows key on the keyboard or click Start

2) Type cmd

3) Right click on "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"

4) Type in command prompt as -   "cd C: \ Program Files \ Autodesk \ PowerMill 2018 \ sys \ tooldb" (without quotes) and press Enter

(( Here enter After ‘cd’ enter the path PowerMill database path)) ..

5) Type "ADODC.exe -Regserver" (without quotation marks) and press Enter

6) close the Prompt window

Now restart PowerMill and tool database would work correctly as expected..

Please verify and confirm.

Thank you for your time and co-operation,

Yesterday i found a way around the problem but it is not perfect.

If you install PowerMILL 2017 and run the "Register Tool Database Server" file in the Autodesk PowerMILL 2017 folder you can then use the database in powermill 2018.

Autodesk must work on a fix for this problem.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for contacting Autodesk Community Forum..

This is known behavior and this have been already escalated to PowerMill development thorough a change request and development team is working on this.

I have extracted VC++  20005 from PowerMill 2017 setup only and and this installer would be added into the upcoming customer release for Autodesk PowerMill 2018.

Thank you for your time and co-operation.

Best regards,

Have you created a shortcut of the ADODC.exe in your desktop?

@Anonymous

Try copying and pasting the following path to your target line.  The problem could be the -regserver at the end of the target.  Needs to be called out exactly.

Go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill 2018\sys\tooldb
Create a shortcut to the desktop for the ADODC.exe file
Change the target properties of the shortcut to:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill 2018\sys\tooldb\ADODC.exe" -regserver
Then run that as administrator.
The tool database should now be registered.

Hope that helped!
