Hi,

 

My question may sounds very silly but I need a tip how to align the flat product. 2 mm thick, with no circles and cylinders. Profile looks pretty straightforward with two radiuses and two lines between them. I have a 3D model and I can't align the profile properly. Alignment lines are not matching with 3D module outline. They are laying on the module correctly but the line and arrow is out of the profile.

 

I have used a Wireframe Checker to select the surface and I have selected a Line between Two Points. I have aligned this part with PLP Alignment.

 

I tried to align this one with support of Rotation and Translation option on Edit Offset but I am still struggling to get a proper alignment.

 

I have tried to use Simple Measures to create alignment between Two Circles and Lines. Still doesn't work.

 

 

Profile is aligning pretty well on Non-Cad but we prefer Cad model to set the parameters once and then reproducing them on the next FAI.

 

 

How to overcome this problem? Is that is because of lack of circles, holes and cylinders?

Hi Anna,

 

Welcome to the PowerInspect forum.

 

So from the sounds of your message you are trying to align a 2mm thick rectangle with rounded ends?

 

I would try to align this with a plane on the top, measure the 2 radi, create a line between them and use one of the radi as a point.

 

One thing to bear in mind when you create a PLP is the direction of the plane and the line, this can cause issues if the direction is incorrect.

 

Could you attach your PWI for me to look at and I can hopefully spot the issue.

I have attached a CAD image of the profile the best alignment what I achieved which is very poor.

Hi Anna,

 

Thank you for the image, so does your part look something like the attached picture?

 

If so I would do a probed line along the flat edge, rather than the line between two centers, as I'm guessing form looking at the part the 2 centers are in the same place.

Unfortunately the part looks slightly different - please see the photograph below. I am assuming that the root cause of my alignment issues.

Hi Anna,

 

Have you tired aligning with a probed line along one of the two straight edges, this should work and give a good alignment.

 

Plane: Probed on the flat surface

Line: Probed Line along one of the flat edges

Point: Center pint of either the inner or outer radius

I have followed your advice and I created a Probed Plane, Probed Line and I picked up the Centre point of radius from the Geometry Explorer section - please see the attached photograph



Could you please precise how I can reproduce a Centre Point of radius - I found this one in Geometry Explorer. Is that the correct one? If so, this doesn't work, I am afraid.

Hi Anna,

 

Please see this quick video I made on aligning the part.

 

I moved the part in the Virtual CMM by the following amounts X5.00mm Y2.00mm Z1.00mm and rotated around the Z by 5°.

 

After the alignment was measured the same values were calculated and moving the probe to the corners matches on both the machine and PowerInspect.

 

I hope this helps.
