I talked to a reseller at Kelar
Pacific in San Diego California
by telephone. The young lady was
the most beautiful person I've
ever talked to on the phone. Her
name is Jen. She had all the
knowledge needed to explain the
current Autodesk license policies.
When we finished our discussion,
I mentioned to her that there might
be some big changes at Autodesk.
I could sense a deep sadness in her
voice over what Autodesk was
talking about doing. The best I could
do to help her was to say that next
year is not here yet and we don't know
for sure what any of this will mean.
She told me that if someone bought
a perpetual license for an Autodesk
program today, and purchased the
upgrade maintenance agreement with
it, that they would have three years
of new releases and that's it, then
their maintenance subscription would
terminate and couldn't be renewed.
She also thought it might be possible
at that time to get a one year extension,
but she really didn't know about that.
Thank you. I will share this information with the Partner Manager for Kelar Pacific. We have no plans to discontinue renewal of Maintenance agreements.
"We have no plans to discontinue renewal of Maintenance agreements."
Thanks catwolfsf, that's really what I need to hear, in case Marketing
Management ever does get this insane proposal through, starting next
year, and Autodesk slowly ceases to exist as we know it. At least a
"skeleton crew" would be required to honor my upgrade maintenance
agreement.
My next challenge, before I buy that agreement, (if I have to), is to
make sure it contains more than just "we have no plans" to terminate
my maintenance agreement.
And even if they put out endless hoops for me to jump through to
actually get a new version, according to my agreement, that's what
I'm used to with Autodesk anyway.

catswolfsf, it has to be an option to buy or rent. There is
no other logical or business way. And we certainly do
need that option to rent.
