Can ObjectARX2021 read the drawing created in ObjectARX2012?

I have a drawing created in AutoCAD2012 using ObjectARX2012, and then opened it in AutoCAD2021 with ObjectARX2021 and then it crashes.

Upon converting the drawing from 2012 to 2021, and load it again in AutoCAD2021 it still crashes. By the way I am using DWG TrueView2022 for conversion and upon checking the converted file is smaller. 

I know this is due to the versioning compatibility, however is there a way to fix this?

So, the drawing in the 2018 format (e.g. after conversion by TrueView) opens ok in AutoCAD 2021 without your app loaded, but crashes with your app loaded. Does the original 2012 format drawing behave the same way - open ok in AutoCAD 2021 without your ARX app loaded and crash when opened with your ARX app loaded?

Does your ARX application implement any custom object classes with instances of those in the drawing?

Yes it does, they were compiled using the ObjectARX2021. Is there a way to open the drawing created in ObjectARX2012 to ObjectARX2021?

I asked about custom objects because that would cause interaction with your ARX app when the drawing was opened and something in that interaction could be causing the crash. I think you're going to have to debug your application when the drawing is opening to try and figure out what is causing the crash.

What I did is, first I open AutoCAD2021, type in MENULOAD to load my .cuix and then APPLOAD to load the 2021.arx, and it was working properly without any errors. Then I open my 2012.drawing, and the crash happens. The error only happens for 2021 drawings.

Please help me on this.

By the way, I am fixing a legacy code that was last build on VS2015 and then I rebuild it on VS2019 because of ObjectARX2021. 

Is there a better way to debug this, or do you have any other tools that I can use to determine the cause of the problem

I'm assuming that VMAcad21_64.arx is your arx application.If you double click on one of the call stack lines that's in your application that should show you the source involved at that point. That should help you see what might be going wrong. You can then set a breakpoint before that, start again, and try single stepping through to see what happens.

From the exception, it sounds like you've got some local variable on the stack that has something being written to it past its allocated bounds.

Thanks for this, I was able to fix the crashing part of my 2021 dwg, however while checking the data inside my arx, I just find it odd to see this, there are some special characters, is this normal?

Also upon opening may 2012 dwg to AutoCAD2021, this is displayed. 

Is there a way for me to check, what error is that?

That string looks like it has random byte values before the actual string. That is definitely not normal.

The only way i can think of to try and find out what the error is during open would be to run RECOVER and see if it tells you what was wrong.
