PRM File error - too many iterations

Hi There,

I am trying to create a PRM file on Netfabb Simulation Utility with the following parameter values:

Laser Power: 280 W

Travel Speed: 960 mm/s

Layer Thickness: 0.04 mm

Hatch Spacing: 0.11 mm

Interlayer Rotation angle: 67 deg

Material: Inconel 718

The other process parameters in the PRM file (heat source absorption efficiency, laser beam diameter, and recoater time) aren't as important for my simulation, so I have left them at the default values given in the "New Process Parameters" window on the Simulation Utility.

When I try to create this PRM file, it terminates. The error message reads

"TOO MANY ITERATIONS -- REDUCING DELTA T

REQUIRED DELTA T LESS THAN SPECIFIED MINIMUM

TRY RELAXATION, LINE SEARCH OR REDUCE THE SPECIFIED MINIMUM DELTA T"

I am somewhat new to the software, so I am not sure exactly what this means. Maybe I need to change one of the other parameters (heat source absorption efficiency, laser beam diameter, or recoater time) to a different value  that will work with the parameter values I specified above?

If anybody has an explanation for this, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Susan

Hello ss651561,

The value you specified for the laser power combined with the laser beam diameter is known to have convergence issues. The value for the laser beam diameter can be adjusted. Increasing the diameter has shown to help with convergence without changing results significantly. I hope this helps.
