Netfabb Simulation Crashing

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I have been running a few simple simulations lately and the simulation utility seems to be crashing a lot.

I have also noticed that when I hit mesh preview, an error appears saying "the simulation was not successful. Please review the thermal and mechanical output files to troubleshoot the error."

Any help would be great!

Thanks Joe

Dear @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Netfabb Forum!

When encountering crashes, please open a support case through https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/ > Support > Contact us, and make sure to append any log files, available either within the Simulation Utility, on the Home tab, or stored in the project folder (alongside the TIVUS file) with the OUT extension.  There is one for the thermal analysis, and another for the mechanical analysis.

At any rate, please make sure you are running the latest release of Netfabb and its utilities, currently at 2018.2.

Kind regards,

Steffen

Hi Steffen,

Thanks very much for replying to my message. I reinstalled Netfabb and this did indeed solve the problem.

I do have another query with regards to the simulation utility. When I load the results I am unable to get any stress output data.

Please note that I am currently on the trial version of Netfabb Ultimate and I have selected structural plasticity on the solver settings with all stress results selected as outputs.

I would find the stress results to be very important in my analysis of this software.

Kindest regards Joe

Hi Steffen,

Just following up from your previous reply and wondering if you have found if it is possible for me to get stress outputs.

I don't mean to push you, however there is only one week left of the trial.

I would greatly appreciate a response.

Hello, @Anonymous,

Could you please clarify:

Are you loading the simulation results in Netfabb core?

Please try File -> Import result in Simulation Utility, it should show stresses and all results.

Also, Simulation Utility should automatically load results when a simulation completes.

Kind regards,

Steffen

Hi Steffen,

Thanks for the swift reply.

When I load the results on Netfabb Simulation, on the tree in the browser there are no values of stress, either von mises or Cauchy.

Please find attached below the  screenshot of the simulation resuts that are obtained (These are with all simulations I have ran).

Simulation Results Screen Capture.PNG

Also I have noticed in the solver settings under analysis type there is the option of selecting thermal or thermal & mechanical, with no mechanical on its own. Also to note that I am unable to solve locally as I was not sent the local solver with the trial, therefore I have been simulating on the cloud.

Maybe this has something to do with the issue??

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Kindest regards Joe.

Hi Steffen,

I have obtained all the relevant thermal and mechanical output files. But I cannot seem to obtain the stress outputs.

Please see the image below of all the files in the results folder.

Simulation Results Files Screen Capture.PNG

Also I have tried to attach a zip file of this folder so that you may be able to analyse the problem in detail. However the file size limit is exceeded on this forum. Do you perhaps have an alternative email address I can send it to??

Thanks, I am very grateful for your help.

Kindest regards Joe.

Hi Steffen,

In all the simulations I have ran so far I have ticked all the boxes in the results tab. As can be seen from the image below. Solver Settings Screen Capture.PNG

I have noticed that you have turned structural plasticity off in your results tab. Just to note that I have turned it on in all my simulations to yield the most accurate results. I have now ran the simulation again with it turned off to see if it solves the issue. If this has anything to do with it please let me know.

Much appreciated.

Thanks Joe.

Hi Steffen,

I have loaded the results with Structural Plasticity OFF and all the STRESS BOXES TICKED and still NO STRESS OUTPUTS. Please see below the image. Results with Structural Plasticity Off - Screen Capture.PNG

I really am baffled at why there are no stress outputs. Also I was wanting to test the heat treatment feature but with no stress results I feel it is not worth while. Any help on resolving this issue would be fantastic.

Kindest regards Joe.

Joe,

please create a support ticket through https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/ and submit the TIVUS file as an attachment, or make it available on a file transfer service and send the download link via PN to me personally.

From your earlier screenshot, make sure to not send box_tivus.stl but the file that has the extension ".tivus".

Hi Steffen,

I am new to this platform and am not sure how to create a support ticket. (There doesn't seem to be any instructions) However here is the tivus file attached.

If this does not work can I email you on a personal email account to speed up the process.

Thanks Joe.

Hi Steffen,

Just chasing up to see if there are any developments with the file?

Kindly note there are only 3 days left of the trial.

I look forward to hearing a response.

 Hi all,

Are there any updates on this problem? I am also experiencing the same difficulties. Again I am also using the Netfabb Ultimate trial version. Is there a chance that the trial version is limited and does not provide the stress results?

Best Regards,

Daniel

Hello,

This issue should be resolved with the most recent release of the update to Autodesk Netfabb 2018.3. Unfortunately, simulation projects and results created with 2018.2 that were missing certain results will continue to be missing them when viewed in 2018.3.

Kind regards,

Steffen
