free cut not working

I've been trying to cut 2 parts, after close to half an hour it will get to 60% and stop progressing. I've let it run for 15 hours and have gotten the same result. I've tried cutting 2 part at a time, reducing the resolution factor , reducing the triangles of the parts, even unchecking all the cut options. Nothing had worked so far, currently its been running for 27 minutes and only at 30%. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I've been on these 2 parts for almost a week and I'm reaching the end of my rope.

Hello @dthomas6184,

Welcome to the Netfabb Forum!

Your description suggests a highly complex and/or broken meshes. Would you mind sharing screenshots?

Thanks

Steffen

the first 2 are the hung progress bar and the 3rd is of the 2 pieces i'm trying to cut. Both meshes are solid but one is not orientated (when I try to run an extended repair on it to fix it, it instantly hangs and I have to shut it down)

Hello,

Your project seems to contain a massive amount of shells and parts. I presume your source is a rather noisy CAD file.

  • You should try to simplify first by merging and unifying all affected parts and shells into singular parts first and only then apply the cuts.
    • Alternatively, perform the cut after splitting the part's shells into separate parts, then reassemble the part.
  • Examine the part that needs repair and see what the actual problem is, and determine the necessary repair actions based on that analysis, instead of just throwing a pre-defined default repair script at it.
  • When Cutting, check Only Selected Parts.

Learn more about what to repair, and why, in the Online Help here.

Best regards,

Steffen

I sorted it out, I used the plane cut to split the one of the pieces I was trying to cut then I made the cut. probably not the best way but it worked.

Hello @dthomas6184,

Feel free to send the project to us. This would enable us to try reproducing the issue and, if necessary, adjust our algorithm.

To do so, I'd suggest you open a support case, with your file attached.

Best regards,

Steffen
