Custom Routine Locking Up Other Users On Network

We have a bunch of custom dll routines that are loaded from a local server.

We are having an issue with one routine that deserializes an XML file (only about 1.2mb) and toggles a bunch of xref layers to preset colours, linetypes, layerstates etc.

Recently we are having some issues where one user runs the routine, and other users on the network have their autocad lock up, these users are not even necessarily running any custom routines, in fact some some are just locking on the start/welcome screen. It's also inconsistent across the office as not all users have their autocad lock. Autocad seems to unlock itself after a few minutes.

I suspect copying everything to user local drives will solve the issues. However i don't particularly want 20 versions of custom files floating around the office as they become impossible to manage/track.

Has anyone else come across any similar issues with autocad and dll's located on servers etc?
