Viewing object parameters

I am using Navisworks Simulate 2017 and would like to send the Navisworks file to a customer so they can view the progress of a project. They would also like to view information associated with some of the equipment. For instance; I have a Pump in the model with many parameters assigned to it and my customer wants to see / read these associated parameters. Is this possible, and if so can someone please provide a detailed explanation as to how this is achieved? I have poked around in Navisworks and searched the internet for this answer long enough and thought I may get lucky and find the answer here.... Thanks a lot for any help!

That depends on what you are using for design software.  In some cases, like Revit or Plant3D, program information connected with the object is converted when the file is read, and is available under properties.  In other cases where the object is just a dumb solid without intelligence or is from a program which Navisworks isn't configured to read those properties, there is nothing.

There's also a few other options, such as creating a link to an external database or programmatically adding properties.  But that's a little more advanced and best used when the more basic options have been exhausted.

The Navisworks file in my case is exported from Revit where many of the components have parameters that are tied to schedules. I hope there is an answer to my initial question.

Hi,

did you find an answer to your question ?

I have such the same problem.

I am working as a profesional kitchen designer and my objects are full of informations that I need to be read into navisworks.

I understood that I can see occurence parameters in navisworks, but I can't see parameter type in navisworks.

I am triing to do that because Navi is free so I can give it to my collaborator on the field, so it's really necessary for them to have access to the parameters.

Hope to hear more from you.

Yes, I was able to figure this out. You may not be able to see any of the parameters of a specific piece of equipment unless that equipment is set to “Set Selection Resolution to First Object” as shown in the attached screen capture. So in order to do this you have to select the object and right click the mouse and make the correct selection in the SELECT dialog box. Next, with the object selected you can then select Properties from the ribbon panel. From the Properties dialog on the right side of the screen click on the Element tab to see a list of parameters.

I hope this helps...

The control indicates how far down into the tree Navisworks goes to look for data, and it can vary depending on the type of data involved.  For example, the software I work with requires "Use last Unique object".  Sometimes you need to play around a bit if the source application doesn't indicate which one to use.

@advandes - I've also moved the "solution" mark to your last post as it contains your solution.
