Steel Exporting (ifc) changes GUID in Navisworks Manage

Team is currently clashing in Navisworks Manage. Steel contractor models in Tekla. Each time they export a new ifc, the GUID's are reset in Navisworks and all existing clashes also reset (turn to resolved, see a huge spike in new clashes).

Does anyone have experience with this and if so, is there a work around to prevent clashes from resetting?

Hello,

Thank you for posting to the forums.

Generally the Navisworks application doesn't modify incoming data but rather reads the data from the file. I am not familiar with Tekla's IFC export but are they exporting consistently with stable IDs? I.E the same IDs for every export.

If you are able to provide 2 files where you experience the issue, we are happy to take a look.

Regards

Hi Brett, thanks for the response I appreciate it.

I am happy to send you some files. Is there a place I can send them to you directly instead of on this public forum?

Also, do you know if there is an option to set up a clash test that ignores the GUID number? I tried setting up some clash tests that are based on different properties within the IFC file (rather than search sets or file names) but during testing, the clashes still reset.

Thank you,
Erika

Hello,

Sure, send them here: Brett.Parker@autodesk.com

I'm not aware of an easy way to do that. It may be possible by creating a rule in the clash detective but I don't have any experience with that.

Hello everyone, does anyone have any more information about this issue, is it related to appending models in navisworks or ifc exporting from tekla, I saw a comment on Reddit that someone opened a ticket for this and worked on it with Autodesk Support but no more information after that. Hope we find this a solution, maybe somehow its related to how Tekla changes the model with each save or model relocation or renaming, any thoughts?

I'm using Manage 2026 Update 1 and it still does it to some objects.

I link the IFC into Revit for alignment purposes, then I export an NWC with "linked views" enabled. It doesn't reset every GUID but it does reset a lot of them. I'll need to test with just appending the IFC directly into Manage to see if it does the same thing.
