Remove elements from a set?

Stuck on one of those little things, despite trying everything that comes to mind. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm not getting it, or if it's one of those quirks in Navisworks you've gotta live with.

Thing is, I've got a set defined in Navisworks (a regular set, not a search set), and I want to remove elements from it. So I touch the set in the sets window, and all elements light up. I figure the next step would be to Ctrl-Click the element to deselect it, and then update the set.

Except I can't get it to work. When I Ctrl-click, I see the element come up in the selection tree, and it even deselects in the tree, but it's still selected on screen. And if I right click on the set to update, "Update" is greyed out. If I make any attempt to take the selection off the set in the sets window, all the elements are deselected.

If I do the same thing on an element that's not part of the set, it works fine ("Update" is still greyed out though).

Is there another way that you go about removing elements from a NW set, or do you simply have to create the set all over again from scratch?

I had the same question, but I guess the fact that no one has an answer means that this logical and necessary functionality was not considered in the programming. So it would appear that you have answered both our questions when you state that a whole new set must be created to exclude a single element. Not very helpful.

That is strange. I seem to have no problem updating my selection set.

I can't think of any reason why yours doesn't work.

What version of Navisworks?

What file type did you append to the Navisworks file?

Yes, if you want to add some elements to a set you can select them and then update the set, but there is no easy way to remove one or a few elements from a previously defined set. The only way I could figure out is to just reselect everything except the element(s) that you do not want included. And I know you can deselect items while you are in the process of making a selection, but this issue has to do with specifically removing elements from a predefined set.

I have checked online and in my books and workbook from the class I took and there is no reference to this specific issue. I will be happy to be proven wrong but so far I am stumped.

I have no problem removing elements from selection sets. So, I tried some different selection methods and also nwd, and nwc and didn't have any issues.

Here is a vid I did showing it:

I ran into a similar problem, just figured it out. My selection resolution was set to First Object so I could see as many properties as possible for selected objects. However, because NW was defaulting to first object selection, it would try to pick from the highest level of hierarchy whenever I attempted to deselect (i.e. believed there were objects for types and layers since that is how my selection tree is organized, and would deselect the type or layer "object" whenever I tried to pick geometry). I set my selection resolution back to Last Object and deselection is working normally, both in and out of the selection set interface.
