Properties in Selection tree

When I export piping systems from Revit 2018.3 to Navisworks Manage 2018, my pipe system names do not appear in the selection tree (CHW, HW, VAC, AIR, GAS, STEAM, etc), but they are in properties. How can I get these Pipe System names to display in the selection tree so I can hide one system at a time?

Hi @Anonymous,

I’ve posted a screenshots below:

Is this the “Pipe System name” that you are trying to display?

If not, could you please add screenshots to illustrate what’s missing?

Thank you.

I am not looking for "pipe types" or "material name". I need system name which appears in the properties menu. See attached screenshot. I also uploaded an example of someone who uses CADmep to export to navisworks and their system name populates (CCC, CGR, Chilled Beams, CHWR, CHWS, Equipment, Hangers, HWR, HWS, etc.).

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting screenshots. I understand that you’re wanting the Piping System name for example “M-Heating Water Return” to also show in Selection Tree. Unfortunately, the software was not designed with this feature.

You may already be aware of this workaround however you may find it helpful to Create Selection and Search Sets and then Save a Selection Set. You only have to do this once and then you can select and deselect the particular Piping Systems easily by Using a Saved Selection or Search Set.

If you’d like to see the Selection Tree show Piping Systems names the way it does for CAD MEP, I’d recommend that you post your idea at the Product Feedback page.

Check out this post by Derek:

You can use the properties view in the selection tree to view and hide the grouped search sets that you are talking about, or use the method described in the post above to make a more easily filtered search set.

Where both of the options, the selection sets and changing the selection tree view to use Properties work, both options are very time consuming to try and use.  Autodesk needs to start showing piping, electrical, etc by system rather than by component type in Navisworks.   Components are modeled by system, they should be shown that way by default in Navis.
