Opening Solidworks 2019 ASM files in Navisworks 2019 / 2021 don't work

Hello,

we just updated our SWX from 2015 to 2019 (and also moved from Win7 64bit to WIN10 64bit).

When we now open an SLDASM in Navisworks Manage2019, it try to load and then we only have the blue background.

The imported files are shown in the "structure tree" but without any volumebodys and so nothing to see.

Yes, all the Parts and all the subassemblies are in the same folder, and we do use this kind of convert files from Solidworks to Navisworks since 4 years, and it worked the hole time.

Is there any known problem for importing files from SWX 2019?

And at last: 2 month before upgrading all the software, I tried to open some Assemblies (pre upgraded to SWX2019)

and opend all in Navisworks 2019, but it was on a Win7 64bit PC.

I also tried out Navisworks 2021 and it also didn't work.

Maybe some of you have a solution for me, because we need this exports for our customers.

Best regards

The problem is, that Autodesk Navisworks 2019 uses the "Inventor 2019 runtime" to open/import Solidworks files. And this supports only the import til Solidworks 2015.

To read Solidworks 2019 files you need Autodesk Navisworks 2021, which uses the "Inventor 2021 runtime". This supports the import of Solidworks files til version 2020

From Autodesk Inventor 2021 Help:

AnyCAD Reference Model Formats

  • SolidWorks - version 2020 support is added.
  • Unigraphics - NX 1872 Series support is added.
  • Solid Edge - version 2020 support is added.

Just read your last sentence, that you also tried Navisworks 2021. Can you post a sample model here, that we can analyze why it is not working ? Because in theory it should work.

Thanks Marcus for your reply,

I think we have found the reason:

We tested Navis2021 and we now can open our Assemblies !

The reason why it wont work last week was we just started to convert all our file top the new SWX Version 2019.

So in our test case we had an assembly with parts from different versions (2015 & 2019).

Maybe Navis dont like this mixture...

We now opend some of our bigger assemblies in SWX2019 and saved all the files in the SWX Format 2019.

Now everything is OK.

So we go directly to the new Version Navisworks 2021 and convert as fast as possible all our Solidworks files.

Many thanks for your answer, but I think we now have the solution.

Best regards

Christian
