Navisworks start up issue -

Hi,
I downloaded Navisworks Manage 2012 yesterday but I can't get past the startup phase.
So far I have uninstalled Navisworks2012, reinstalled and tried again but am getting the same error. In the startup window a window pops up looking to "open messages file". I have searched for this in all my autodesk files but it is not there. when I close the window down I am given an error saying:-  Failed to load message file "messages"

When I click ok I get another error file saying:- Warning: unknown message id: 24616

I have completely uninstalled Navisworks 2012 and instead tried to install the 2011 version but am getting the exact same problem.
See attached images indicating the problem.

This is an odd problem, I haven't seen this before and can find very little information about it.

This looks like it's coming from another application that hasn't installed correctly or is interfering with the Navisworks installation.

Do you have any mobile phone applications installed, such as Blackberry or Samsungs own?

Do you have any other messaging applications?

Are you running all your installers as Administrator? You will need to do this in Windows 7 by right click > run as Administrator.

Let us know how you get on

Hi Lee,

No, no mobile phone applications that I know of.

Itunes is on there, skype and Google talk for messaging. I've signed out of both and attempted the start up but same window.

I've attached a snapshot of my program files if that's any good.

I'm not sure what you mean by run as installer, I'm on windows vista. Tried right clicking Navisworks and run as installer but when I open I get the same window again.

I have Team Viewer installed if you fancy taking a look at it?

Regards,

Fergal.

That should read run as administrator, not run as installer!
Apologies,

Fergal.

Can you create a log file on Navisworks 2012 using these instructions?

Hi Lee,

Tried to do that just now but I can't access the logging folder as it is not there. (See the attached)

What next?

Fergal.

For some reason you don't have the advanced options open, can you try opening this from the command prompt, ensuring you use the '-a' argument to switch to advanced options?

Is this an English installation?

Can you go to the following folder and see if there is a file called 'messages'?

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage 2012\presenter\lads\layla_data\en-US

If there isn't can you please unzip this file and place 'messages' to that folder?

If there is can you please replace it 'messages'?

Hi Lee,

I believe it is an English installation, I downloaded it from here http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=download_center (see attached screen shot).

There was a messages folder so as per your instruction I have replaced it with the one you provided in the zip file.

So I run Navisworks and the messages folder opens up, I go to the file path you highlighted C:\Program\Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage 2012\presenter\lads\layla_data\en-US and clicked open.

This opened another window called shaders file, again I clicked open.

Then another window called names file, clicked open.

Another window called lwpda file, clicked open.

Another window called lwpdat file, clicked open.

Another window called photoreal file, clicked open.

Then Navisworks Manage 2012 (Student Version) opened!!

So then I closed everything down, restarted my computer and opened up Navisworks again. I went through the same process as outlined above from the messages folder through to the photoreal folder clicking open all the time and got in.

Have successfully imported a Revit Model so it seems to be working.

I've attached the last log file for you.

Regards,

Fergal.

You're missing a few files. I've attached a zip of the latest version of the files. You will need to add them to the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage 2012\presenter\lads directory, and the other files to the En-US directory.

Can you then search for 'photoreal.lwa' on your installation media (you may need to extract the installer) and add this to the lads directory.

I'd recommend making a backup of the lads directory first, just in case.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Lee

I encountered the same problem in Navisworks Manage 2012 during start-up. It asks to open a messages file, then a names.mesg file, then shaders.mesg file, then lwpda.mesg file, then  lwpdat.mesg, then photoreal.mesg file.

I tried re-installation several times and also your suggestion to replace files in the lads directory but still I encounter the start-up error.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Your help will be much appreciated

Thanks

It simply looks like the Presenter portion of Navisworks is not installing correctly. We recommend ensuring that installation is done with full Admin rights and the installer is 'Run as Administrator' as we think this happens with limited Admin rights on installation.

We'd suggest setting up an additional user account on the machine and seeing if the same issue occurs on there.

If you have a seperate machine you can try this on where it works, ensure it is the same OS and bitness (32 or 64) and copy across the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage 2012\presenter\lads" folder

Let us know how you get on
