Navisworks Manage 2024 - IFC interoperability

Hello,

I have a question regarding Navisworks 2024 and it´s IFC plugins. BIM collaboration becomes more and more common and workflow wise we think about getting an IFC export plugin for Navisworks. The advantage is we would be able to consolidate 2D and different 3D sources in Navisworks still and then, without further ado, simply export an IFC of everyting for the BIM platform of choice: questions I would like to ask

1. will IFC be native in a future release?

2. is a different approach for creating IFC models recommended

3. can someone share insight into the two listed IFC exporter solutions Autodesk recommends

                        a. iConstruct Pro by Hexagon

                        b. IFC Exporter by codemill

That´s it for now, have a great week and any help is greatly appreciated

Kind regards

Daniel

Hello,

Thanks for posting to the forums.

  1. IFC Export is not on our product roadmap. Navisworks is intended as a viewer rather than an authoring tool.
  2. Our recommended workflow is to export to IFC from the authoring tool and not from Navisworks.
  3. No comment from Autodesk directly, perhaps someone in the community can share their experiences.

Regards

Hello Brett,

thank you so much. That helps a lot and we have a meeting scheduled with one of the plugin providers for exporting IFC´s directly from Navisworks. We´ll go into detail about the possible problems with the direct route.

Have a nice day
