Is there a way to have a fixed rotation point?

What I'm dealing with, I am trying to have a fixed rotation point for a crane.

I want to be able to select the upper part of the crane (arm and cab) in the selection tree and be able to rotate it from the center axis of the cab.

At the moment when I select them both, the rotation point goes in the middle of the two objects. Is there a way to move and have a fixed rotation axis instead of having to move the point every time?

Here an easy way, select whatever you want, zoom in to the point you wanna rotate about using your mouse scroll, that moves the rotation point to it. Rotate your crane as much as u want then.Screenshot (125).png

Not quite, I want to be able to select a selection set and have the rotation pivot in the center of the crane. What it is doing, the pivot point is going in the center of the two parts not the center of the crane.

That's why you have to zoom in at the center of the crane when you select the selection set. that moves the rotation point to the point you zoom to.

Take a look at the pic, I'm selecting some elements and the rotation point is away from them.

I get what you are trying to do, But I don't want to change the orbit pivot center. I want to change the rotation pivot center.

When all my parts are selected in the selection sets, the rotation pivot center moves to the center of all objects. I want to be able to change that center rotation point to the center of the crane not all of its parts.

would you record a video to make it clear?

Attached are the two videos. The first video is where I want the rotation axis to be at all times. But as you can see, once you try and hit the selection set tab it will move the rotation back to the middle of the two parts. I want to know is there a way to have that rotation axis at a specific location for every set?

Hi @tyler.Svitak  ,

To specify the pivot point you have the following ways :
◙ Default pivot point : when you first open your model , the target point of the current view will be your pivot for orbiting
◙ Select objects : when you select an object the pivot point is calculated based on the center of extents of the selected object
◙ Center tool :  you can use the steering wheel to specify your pivot point from the center tool
◙ last one is a shortcut from your keyboard , hold down CTRL then click and drag to the point you wanna be your pivot ( this works when using big and mini full navigation wheels or mini view object wheel )
however note that you can use this shortcut durin orbit tool is active too but this pivot point is used for subsequent navigation until it's moved .

Ok that's it 🙂 , If you find this helpful , kindly accept it as solution
