Is that possible to export a section to Autocad in any format in order to generate 2D drawings? There are posts dated 2016 about this issue but no encouraging answers!

Navisworks isn't intended as a file conversion or drawing production tool.  It's intended to compile models from a variety of sources for review in 3D.  It also provides a means to share intelligent models with less concern about improper use, such as fabrication drawings being created from out-of-date models.

Hi,

Thank you for taking your time to post this on the forum,

I agree with @dgorsman, Navisworks is a coordination and model viewer, if you are looking to get drawings to a format like DWG, I would recommend looking at what options you have exporting from the files native product.

Best Regards.

As of Autocad 2016, the workflow is different:

you can attach an NWD as a reference, called "collaboration model" into Autocad.

Then you can use Autocad functionality to clip, create a Layout sheet and use dimensioning to finalize your 2D  drawing.

Not quite.  For example, the Plant3D ortho drawing generator ignores collaboration models:https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-plant-3d-forum/attach-coordination-model/m-p/7483207

What I am looking for is simply a way to generate a 2D section or let say 2D drawings of a mixed 3D model as in NavisWorks.

Some of our costumer still ask for 2D drawings!!!

In some extend I am doing this everyday with TIN and projected objects in C3D.

This time we could export files to Bentley Microstation as ifc format and put some section lines along the model and generated wanted sections/2D drawings. The whole model was a mixture of solids, surfaces, 3D faces or even Revit parts.

So would AutoCAD manage this task? Which formats or objects would be valid for this operation?

You will need to test Autocad, Autocad Architecture and Revit. The last 2 also can import IFC.

all can append NWD files and most of your native files as references , but I have no detail information if they can create floor plans and sections the way you want.

Anybody knows why I am receiving this while attaching a NWD model?

It went very well with TIN and solids (pipes and walls) but the problem is how to add this part to section too? It is a mix of different entities! I feel so close to a solution and it hurts not to be able to include this into my sections too and be forced to use other softwares!

Obviously there is a function in Revit during "Export" to AutoCAD. The choice of format should be "Solid", not "Polyface mesh". It took me a couple of days to come up with the soulotion watching lots of clips on youtube!

It's possible to convert model to dwg. We can enable section box in Navisworks and export it to DWG. There is no any inbuilt DWG exporter but still it possible with program.
