Exporting a Navisworks layer as an .STL file

Hello,

I have a Navisworks file containing something I'm hoping to 3D print, and to do that I'm looking to export the layer as an .STL file.  I've been looking around online, and it seems that this is not easy to do.  Is there anyway I can get the layer into a .STL file, or am I going to need to go about this a different way?

We I've done is exporting the navisworks model to DWF, then import it in 3Dmax and from there create the .STL file.

The best solution would be to get the native file and export it directly from that software to STL but i'm guessing that you don't have access to that file right?
