collision problems

When I click a collision in the clash detective list, the Realism, Collision and Gravity check boxes recheck every time I click a new collision. I am on Manage 2018 and can't find an answer anyplace. I need to know if this is a setting or a program problem.

Hi David,

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve by using Collision in combination with Clash detection but maybe i can still answer your question.

You can set the viewpoint default values in the Options Editor (F12)

Interface > Viewpoint Defaults > Here you can set the default options for the Collision settings.

I tried that, but every time I click on a different collision they go back to being selected. If I uncheck them and go to another collision and go back to the original collision they are checked again.

In my case it seems to work, only if I toggle the "walk" Navigation Setting, When the Selection mode is active the collision option will be greyed out.

I always us walk. It's the easiest for me. This is something new. I have been doing it the same way for many years and it is just starting to do it for the last couple of weeks or so.

Hi @DavidDeFelice I am reaching out to development on this but as far as I can tell on my machine the settings remain when I go from one clash to the next. Can you please confirm that you have all the updates installed? Currently Navisworks Manage® is on Version 15.2.1319.56.

Thanks

Hi @DavidDeFelice can you try reproducing the issue and share a Screencast with us? I have tried it on my system where the defaults are Collision and Gravity off and every time I go back and forth between collision results the setting I chose remain. It would be very helpful to see a Screencast of your issue so we could understand it better.

Thanks

I have attached a screencast and also an xml file of my settings. I also tried to reset the settings to an old set from when it didn't do it but that didn't work either.

Hi @DavidDeFelice thank you for your video and for sharing your settings file with us it was very clear. From importing your settings we noticed that you had your Display Settings when in the Results tab, set to Auto-load instead of Auto-update.

If you click on the Display Settings when in the Results tab, you will notice that by switching to Auto-update you will get a camera icon next to every clash if you modify it from any default setting. This allows you to keep your changes per viewpoint. Please read article and view image below for more information:

I do know about that. that's OK But not a fix. The problem still is every clash the collision boxes keep checking. Also AutoUpdate changes as your looking around and you have to Click on Focus on Clash to get back and then the collision boxes check again. It's very annoying. It didn't do this before. I don't know if its a 2018 thing or a glitch from an update.

Hi @DavidDeFelice from the information we gathered in our internal chats it seems to be deliberate that for example gravity cannot be engaged without collision since that would make the avatar fall forever. In the same note is the relationship between crouching and collision.

The point of crouch is to simulate the possibility of entering in low spaces and without collision there is no reason not to just walk through the wall.

I hope this helps you understand these relationships between collision, gravity and crouch.

The problem is not that the gravity and collision check together. It's that When I click a collision in the clash detective list, the Realism, Collision and Gravity check boxes recheck every time I click a new collision even after I uncheck them. They shouldn't check at all automatically. They never used to. You will see it in the video I posted previously. There must be some setting that is doing it or maybe it's a glitch of some sort but not everybody has this problem. I even used my old settings and it still keeps doing it.

Hi @DavidDeFelice it seems at this point if you could share your file with us we could send it to development if we are able to reproduce your issue in our system. Can you please upload the file to the case we have created for you?

Well it was a huge file (80 floors) so I was trying to make a smaller one for you and when I made one floor the problem was gone. So it has to do with the file I was using. I guess I just have to use the new one from now on.

Hi @DavidDeFelice we're glad your issue was resolved when trimming down the file, however we would be more than happy to test your file or part of it if you could share it with us.

You can go to your user account and upload it to the case at your convenience. Please let us know if you are interested in determining the cause of this and we will gladly help you.

Take a look at articles below as suggestion for e-transmit and attaching large files to a support case with Autodesk:

Thank you!
