Clash Detection with Navisworks using models uploaded in the BIM Collaborate Pro platform

Hello,

I am trying to find good tutorials on how to run Clash Tests using Navisworks on models uploaded in the BIM Collaborate Pro Platform. Not looking into the built-in Clash Results in the cloud as we need to be able to get more granular results.

Any suggestions on where can I find such tutorials?

Thank you

I've not used Navis with BIM Collaborate Pro, but I'd imagine the basic setup is same, or very similar to BIM 360 Glue.

1. Create a "merged" model on the BIM 360 platform.

2. Open Navisworks Manage with the BIM 360 Add-In installed.

3. Open the BIM 360 Merged model via the BIM 360 tab in Navisworks Manage.

4. Setup, run and manage clash detection on the BIM 360 model within Navisworks Manage.

Please post solution if the above is not correct.  I plan on moving to BIM Coordination sometime soon.

Thank you,

All those steps are correct.  I was wondering if it was possible to take them further such as:

5. Group the Clashes in Navisworks

6. Push the Grouped Clashes to BIM360

7. Create one BIM 360 Issue for each Grouped Clash

Basically, I do not like how BIM Collaborate Pro Model Coordination groups the clashes and would like to do it differently.

Does this make sense to you?

Makes perfect sense.  Unfortunately it sounds like Coordinate Pro hasn't addressed some of the most significant barriers to using the BIM 360 platform for coordination.  I had been laboring under the misconception that "Pro" might mean that the full suite of Navisworks clash detection tools were now compatible with the online product.

The inability to clash by user defined search sets or readily group clashes as the user sees fit, is a major obstacle to combining the power of Navisworks Manage with the apparent improvements in data sharing (between Navis-Revit-BIM 360), metric reporting and team communication.

Have you tried BIM 360 Glue? Is it any better?

I've tried Glue and found it unusable for anything more than allowing others to view the latest federated model.  Clash tests are model vs model only.  Grouping is by model only.  Markups are difficult to create and there is no ability to edit or move created markups - only option is to delete and recreate.  Color and/or transparency overrides cripple the graphics engine (think 5-10 minute refresh for any changes to camera position, direction or zoom level).  Hiding elements in saved views is worthless as no Saved Attributes for "Hide/Required" are included - as soon as models are refreshed, all elements are redisplayed despite previously hiding them.

So no, I would not recommend Glue for anything more than providing a viewing platform for latest merged model to any on the team that are willing and able to learn to navigate, and perhaps communicate, on that interface.

End of rant.

Point taken!

😂

This rant likely saved me a couple of hours.

All of the above issues have been identified multiple times by multiple users over the past several years.  The response is always a condescending, this as a special "feature" request.  Basic functionality doesn't seem like a feature to me and being told so is offensive.

BIM 360 Glue, and perhaps the freshly named Coordination module, may work fine in a narrowly defined workflow.

I personally don't believe it is reasonable to manage status parameters for each and every clash in design stage models, especially with a lack of user defined search set tests or clash groups.  Design stage models convey intent and are not nearly at fabrication level accuracy where all conflicts might be an issue.

Clashing by selection set and grouping by user choice are both critical tools for managing clash detection in design stage models.  Color and transparency overrides as well as saved hidden parameters per view are critical for visualizing complex models.  Rather than taking confirmation of these features in latest software offerings offline, why not share with the community?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Hi @zach.crumal ,

Thank you for stepping forward.

Is it possible to do the following with the current BIM 360 offerings?

1. Push the Grouped Clashes in Navis to BIM360 Model Coordination

2. Create a BIM 360 Issue for each Grouped Clash

Thanks
