Setting Default Render style "Mode"

Navisworks Manage 2018. Does anyone know where in options I can set the default render style mode when opening a new file.  Previous versions defaulted to "Shaded" but my 2018 version defaults to "Full Render." Opening files takes far too long. I cant seem to find where to set that default.

Thanks

If the "new file" you're opening is a DWG, it's Options>File Readers>DWG/DXF>Render Type.

Set it to Shaded there.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately it is an ifc file and there is no similar option for ifc.

I cant figure out what setting is different between 2017 & 2018. if I open this same file in 2017 it opens much quicker.

Not a complete solution, but I've seen suggestions from others to keep a bare-bones NWF file with the settings you want.  Instead of opening the IFC file, you would open the base NWF, merge the IFC, and save-as.  A bit more involved but it should work right now.

Thanks. It is bare bones and it is only steel. However, I have to go through this task with 8 models every week. All I would like to know from @Anonymous  why I can open the same exact file side by side in 2017 & 2018 and get different results. a good 3-5 minutes difference in the time to open files.

I think at this point I'll chalk it up as not resolvable and just use 2017.

From memory, there's been some work done on the IFC reader lately in order to support new(er?) IFC features.

I do know that I've seen others with problems working with IFC files which had unnecessarily high levels of physical detail.  Any chance you can share a sample IFC, or some screenshots/screencast?

Unfortunately I cant share the model. Yes it is pretty detailed but I dont believe that is the issue, it was never an issue until we went to 2018.

I have decided to use previous versions for this task, bummer to have to use 2 versions but there does not seem to be a solution.

Reiterating - Same model opened in Navisworks 2016 or 2017 opens in about 2-3 minutes.

When opened in 2018 it takes approximately 12-15 minutes.

@Anonymous Something clearly changed in the 2018 release. I cannot find any option or setting which changes these results.

It doesn't work on 2020. In Options the Render Type of DWG/DXF is "Shaded". When actually appending new DWG the Render Style mode is "Full Render" regardless of the setting in Options.

I don't think we have an option to set the default render mode. Instead, Navisworks looks to see if the file defined any "Autodesk Materials". If it did, it defaults to Full Render (so you can see the materials), otherwise it defaults to Shaded.

We don't have a way of overriding that and always defaulting to Shaded I'm afraid.
