Is it possible to run macros in Excel to perform tasks in Navisworks?

Has anyone programmed VBA macros to execute simple tasks in Navisworks? 

For example, I would like to be able to highlight and locate pieces of material identified by a GUID in Navisworks by running a macro in Excel that would match the GUID to Navisworks.

Is it possible?

This is wrong approach. You should create a Navisworks add-on which will parse Excel/CSV files and do some operations like highlighting matching GUIDs
