Surface Contacts

Hi Guys,

Pretty basic question here, I've drawn a frame constructed from RHS and sheet metal and am trying to do some analysis using Nastran. I've idealized the majority of the model as shell elements as is standard in other FEA software, however I cant get the surfaces to contact properly. I've got white lines at every free edge, and when I try to make a manual contact (bonded or offset bonded) the white edge remains which I assume means that the surface edge is still free. I'm sure it's a pretty basic problem, but I was hoping someone could help me out

Kind Regards

Hi @roy7BB24

Adding contact isn't going to change the white on free edges. I recommend running a modal analysis as a verification that the contact is working. If it isn't, then you will see near zero modes of vibration and parts with excessive deformation. You can use that to identify missing contact and add it to the model.

Thanks,

James
