sculpting to bake or painting normal maps?

Hi there,

Im starting to look into mudbox and am wondering what the best way do get normals onto my model are.  I was wondering if it would be best for me to sculpt in details and then bake them down into a lowpoly mesh or simply paint normals onto the mesh?

I must admit to not having much luck when it comes to painting normals - I think i must be doing something wrong. When painting normals in substance painter I seem to get much better results. Are there any settings I need to look at when painting normals?

any tips or advice would be much appreciated

if you still have this question i must say

better do detail in mudbox

than export hi ploy to substance painter and try bake from hi res to low res
