I created my VDM then ReTopologized the VDM sculpted plane to get more detail followed by creating another plane in Mudbox. I then extracted the VDM file from the sculpt plane to the flat plane only to have mud give me an error that the topology is different, had I not retopologized the sculpted VDM plane mesh it would have worked, I know as I tried this a few days ago. How can I bake out my VDM without the error ?
I think I reproduce the issue.
1 sculpt a plain
2 retopologize
3 get a new plain
4 try to extract a VDM on the new plain (low res (source) to the retopologized plain (high res(target)
>get a popoup:
Mudbox cannot extract a Vector Displacement map from these meshes, because they do not have the same base-level topology.
I will look into getting osme info from the Mobu development/QA team and will let you know.
VDM cannot apply to a coulpy of mesh with different base topo.
if you do retopo, the base mesh will definitely have a different topo with the basic plane. VDM cannot do a ray-tracing map extraction cause its algorithm. Vertor displayment map means it need use ecah vertor to do the caculation. different topo means different vertor, so , failure is expected
VDM won't extract, there is no solution around it, as Mudbox says; when the base mesh and the target mesh don't have the same topology, it's not going to work.
My normal map extracted beautifully, execpt it won't paint, beautifully. I create a normal map layer, set the normal map to brush or stencil, set the brush strength to 100%, I don't see nothing being painted ?
FalconCrest, I can paint on the normal map.
I tested in 2014, seems to work fine, as I paint on the normal map I can see the change interactively on the perspective view.
This is normal behavor for a normal map in Mudbox (there are bump maps in the image as well, exclude them) ?
