I've noticed the "paths" problem as well. No matter what you change your paths to, they keep reverting back to mydocuments.
I have mudbox installed on drive C and the path to "Temp" folder points to d:\temp.
Mudbox Preferences clearly show d:\temp as a path but Temp files are still saved in the default location in mydocuments.
At the same time paths for "Data" and "Settings" keep reverting back to default paths (inside Windows>Preferences>Paths window)
Go figure ...
I got tired of chasing it ... so I moved the whole mydocuments folder to drive D

I'm looking for this too.

I don't use "my documents" for anything and don't want to use it for mudbox

searching around I found out how to use environmental variables (win7) to make Maya work for me...
... go into sysem properties, add an environment variable called
MAYA_APP_DIR
and set this to where you want to store your stuff, mines set to
D:\maya

I tried to set one at MUDBOX_APP_DIR
-- but it didn't work.

anyone know the proper name for mudbox?

Fix this Autodesk.  I have:

set MUDBOX_DATA_PATH to D:\dev\mudbox

set MUDBOX_SETTINGS_PATH to D:\dev\mudbox\2014-x64\settings

set MUDBOX_WORKING_FILES_PATH to D:\dev\mudbox\2014-x64\data\Temp

moved all the folders to the correct places

deleted the Mudbox folder in My Documents

It looks correct in the Settings > Paths section and yet...

You STILL recreate the folder in My Documents everytime I start Mudbox (inorder to save the "paths" file).  Sort your sh-- out and get rid of the hardcoded paths.
