Bought new subscription serial number- Mudbox 2017 (mac) will not launch

 Hello,

I previously purchased access to Autodesk Mudbox (mac) through a linked Amazon.com account.  One day, the Amazon Mudbox subscription was no longer available, so I needed to buy a subscription directly from Autodesk instead.

I bought a year long subscription to Mudbox. I recieved a new serial number and successfully entered it several times. A little green checkmark appeared indicating that it was correct, but the screen would just keep asking for the serial number. Finally it worked, but Mudbox would then just crash upon opening.

I decided to try re-downloading Mudbox and re-installing it. Now the problem is that the program just closes automatically as soon as I click it, without leaving any error messages.

Does anyone know what might be going on?

Thanks

I am not an expert so I can only share my own experience. I had a Tech do a remote screen share with me and he substituted a new .pit file, but that didn't solve the problem; although I understand it did solve the problem for some other people. I've come to the conclusion that the problem has more to do with the files that have been installed and left behind by previous installs of Maya and Mudbox. Just installing the new Maya update 3 on top of everything else will not fix the problem by itself. So, here's a suggestion: first delete the application folders for all your autodesk applications: I have Maya, Mudbox and Sketchbook Pro installed; I deleted all the maya and mudbox application folders. Then go to the two Application Support folders and delete everything in those folders:

user/Library/Application Support/Autodesk

/Library/Application Support/Autodesk

for good measure I'd also delete the application preference files: these can be found in user/Library/Preferences and delete all the com.Autodesk.xxxx files (you don't need to delete the user/Library/Preferences/Autodesk folder...if you do you'll lose any scripts, etc. that you've installed).

Now I would then reinstall Mudbox first (I'm not sure this really matters but it's what I did) and you should be able to enter your license information. Then install the latest Maya 2017 update 3. You should be able to now license it and if your experience is the same as mine both applications now run side-by-side as they should. And I'n running Sierra, as I said before.

Good luck.

I might have done something wrong, but nothing helps on my machine - running the latest OS (Sierra), fully updated Maya and Mudbox 2017 and no luck for me - Mudbox still just bounces for a few times, then stops.

Hope that they very soon will fix this 😕

You likely did nothing wrong. The problem is a decided lack of integrity on the part of the seller in my opinion. I can't believe they are still passing this off as Mac compatible.

I'm sorry to say that I very much doubt that AD will be fixing anything, particularly given the fact that people have been able to "fix" this. I believe that if you follow what I described you should be able to get both Mudbox and Maya to run. It's some sort of licensing issue and you really have to delete all the files and folders I described in my post...it's possible that I deleted more than I had to, but it's best to basically start from scratch. All I can say is that what I did worked for me....it's not an OS issue, despite AD saying they don't support Sierra (which is just plain ridiculous, at this point). I first encountered the problem while running El Cap and I now have everything reliably running under Sierra (on two machines).
