3dx max: mesh okay ---> Mudbox: mesh smoothed?

Hello people!

๐Ÿ™‚

Well, i did model a gun in 3ds max. Its okay for me. Very hard edged. When i open it at Mudbox, the mesh looks smoothed. I tried .obj, .fbx, mudbox presets and none preset. How to fix that?

You need to Chamfer all the corners so you have 2 egdes close together - just as if you were doing it in Max prior to adding a TurboSmooth (ignore the fact that Creases exist for a moment). The closer those edges, the sharper the corner even when smoothed.

There's an excellent (and rather funny) tutorial on this on the Area. If/when I can locate it I'll post the link for you. It's quite old now but very informative.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

Hmmm...Chamfer? Do you mean...its like if i have a box in 3ds Max, and
before i apply Turbosmooth i have to add two (or four...) edge loops around
the box to keep the box "tight', and so then apply the Turbosmooth? And
only after i keep all the gun edges prepared this way then, should open
the .obj file in Mudbox and keep working, right?

Strangely in other software, the mesh opens exactly as 3DS max does and the
way i wish. Do you think if I keep the things this way (without the
chamfers work), something weird could happen when render the movie?

I would be happy if you could find the link. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚
