MotionBuilder in the Pipeline

I am exploring MotionBuilder and would like to understand where it is intended to be used.

I have always heard that MotionBuilder was the go to tool for motion capture work (e.g. acquisition, clean-up and application).  Mostly, I have heard MotionBuilder described in the context of character animation which involves motion capture.  I have not heard much about its use outside of this context.

Is MotionBuilder used for more than just character animation that involves mocap?  In other words, is it used as a core animation tool for character and non-character animation, whether or not it includes mocap?

I am interested to know if MotionBuilder, rather than Maya, 3ds Max, et. al. is (or could be) used as the primary animation tool in the pipeline.

@JabbaTheNut

You are correct, MotionBuilder is primarily used for motion capture animation. However, you can create keyframe animation from scratch as well. The graph editor and timeline work quite nicely.

I personally use Maya for animation because there are scripts and plug-ins that I rely on for my workflow. MotionBuilder does not have a scripting language like MEL in Maya.

Thanks @faline.custodio.da.silva.  I suspected that may be the case.
