Shrinkage Compensation

Hi,

Generally when I add "Automatic" Shrinkage Compensation, the warpage reduces in most of the cases.

But sometimes I have also observed that the warpage increases on adding "Automatic" Shrinkage Compensation. I don't understand why this happens. Can someone explain this phenomenon?

Hello @vgvimalkanth

Automatic Shrink Compensation will try to get the warped shape back to the original CAD.  Usually, we can think of distortion in the X and Y directions as Shrinkage and distortion in the Z direction as Warpage.  If one vector or direction is warping out of plane by a large margin, it can influence the overall Automatic Shrink Compensation values.

Hello, I have a question. If CAD data is used for analysis, the shrinkage compensation function can be employed to exclude the shrunken parts and view the actual warpage results of the product. Then, if we use a mold cavity model, can we still continue to use the shrinkage compensation function? Thank you.

Hello @support ,

I would only use the shrink compensation on the part CAD.  If you have the mold cavity model, I would assume this already has been expanded based on your shrinkage values.  Using the shrinkage compensation on the mold cavity model would be applying the shrinkage twice, which is not ideal.
